More thanks needed for emergency workers, especially our firefighters

‘Thank you for an excellent job done on August 7’

To the Expositor:

As a resident of Campbell Street I would like to share a few thoughts on the night of August 7.

Not to often you get to closely observe the actions of a small town’s volunteer fire department crew up close when doing their job. Usually you are contained further back from the action of the fire but where I live is close enough.

With the fire at the old curling rink in Little Current on August 7 it was definitely made clearer in what these men and women have to deal with in performing their jobs—sometimes long exhausting hours, mentally and physically demanding as well as going back to their regular jobs. Some people may say ‘so what, that’s what they signed up for’ and I say I’m sure glad we have such dedicated individuals to help us in our time of need should we ever be faced with such devastation as a fire in our own homes.

The situation could have been a lot worse, with other homes in close proximity where elderly people live.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the emergency personnel that were there that night to help control the situation and fight the fire: the two fire departments, police, ambulance and hydro crew.

Sometimes we need to express our thanks of appreciation more often for deeds done we take for granted.

Thank you for an excellent job done on August 7.
