Re: Kudos to First Nations from Evansville Nation reader (March 29 issue). Thank you for the kudos, backhanded though they are, on Premier Wynne’s announcement that First Nations will be exempted from hydro delivery charges. It’s not so much about the excellence of the First Nations negotiators, it is about negotiating on a justiciable basis.
Here is how I look at it: the Mike Mantha Nation took everything they got under the guise of treaties, and now you are paying for it. We have a saying: “you’re just paying the rent.” Remember this when you start paying for the water you drink and make sure you ask yourself, “whose water is this anyway?” I’m afraid the rent is going up.
