And it was a great day! We started out early, Joan and I. She had an appointment at Manitowaning Medical Clinic, from there to Espanola. We did a bit of shopping, and then to the Queensway Seniors residence where Orpha and Irwin Duxbury reside, September 11th is their 70th wedding anniversary. Justeen and Ron Anstice are the only other two neighbours of the early years. We got a tour of their place, and a visit in the music room before we went to the nicely decorated room. Betty Bowerman was events coordinator, beautiful signs inside and outside; they had Irwin and Orpha’s wedding photos and later lovely photos of the two of them. We had refreshments, punch and desserts, country music in the background, photos taken for the newsletter and many more. We met Millie McCormick and her sister. Millie’s son Bill brought his beautiful old truck, 1947 Mercury, the year of the marriage, more photos. I loved the paint job on the truck. Bill lives in Webbwood, he had it all shined up too. After the photos we walked a mile? to the other side of the hospital where Muriel Pyette resides and all got to say hello to her. We all got a little “Love is” bookmark keepsake. So nice to wish them both the best in person, still a handsome couple.
We stopped at Green Acres for our supper, saw lots of folk there we knew, home by almost 7 pm. A nice day spent with my cousin.
Hey congratulations to great niece Victoria who was out for a drive trying out her new driver’s licence Monday evening. Gosh, they grow old quick! She looked happy!
Tuesday AM: Broke into Sherry and Dave’s, then stopped and had a visit with Bob and Judy Blue, also checked out the new blue roof on their house! Don McMurray called in while I was there; we had a coffee with them.
Such a beautiful day, I almost missed our Sr. U.C.W. meeting at Diane McLean’s. She has a lovely summer kitchen, great meeting, and delicious lunch. I had cooked pork roast, potatoes and veggies, had left over mac and cheese and scalloped spuds heated all up and so it was supper for Jacob’s, 17th birthday. He hasn’t been feeling good, a back to school cold already. But opened presents and Tara had bought a turtle birthday cake, was delish; Sherry and Dave came for dessert; we sang the happy birthday song; nice gifts!
Coyotes kicking up an awful stink behind Ward’s store, 3 am.

Susan was in helping Mum in repositioning stuff. I had a sandwich and ice cream with them.
Today was busy, an early phone call to Helen to see how she is doing. Bev had just called in as I called too.
Checked out the last market of the season, they said it was busy. Thank you to all the vendors from Bob Beard to Margaret for her coffee shop, and for Lori Gordon’s musical entertainment, Lori thanks Bob and Joan for their work, on going. The first person today I encountered was Ivan Harwood in South Baymouth, he just got here Thursday, and I hadn’t seen him for a few years. He was with sister Susan and Kemp Morton, a nice visit there. Moved one table over to meet our newest Islanders, recently sold their home in Elliot Lake, now call Sparrow’s Nest their roost! Nice folk who I had met before and forgot their names, Joe Gillogly and Fran Herbert.
Janice Phillips introduced me to Shirley Vanhorn of Callander, visiting here, another reader of my column. What’s his name and I had a drink of juice under the maple’s shade. I then went to Sandfield and shared table space with Melissa and Rose, another nice visit, gave Charlene a hug. It seems she has health issues too.
Well didn’t I see the cutest girl putting her fishing rod away? I didn’t see any fish though? What a nice visit, roadside, Sandfield dock, with Patsy Cress Gilchrist, I’ve missed her. Beautiful day for relaxing lakeside!
Then a voice above me spoke, made me jump “good morning Pat!” It was the man upstairs; I was already feeling guilty from trespassing. I was checking out my (a few years back) escapee blackberry bushes, and to see how Susan and Ross’s wine grapes were doing. Their corn is late, their spuds still green, so if this weather holds. What a gorgeous morning (Saturday), it was balmy early. Got my garbage burned too, actually moving a bit? I went with what’s his name to Carol’s and Earl’s; we watched the Ferry, Friday, 8 pm, good load in, quite a few going. Down to Sherry and Dave’s for a visit. It was a long yesterday; tree toads are doing a lot of talking these days. They like the nice weather too. Russell and Fern McLennan were dining at Carol’s and Earl’s too. I think they have been here a lot this summer. Saw Barb and Hugh, happy birthday Raymond Chatwell, 93?
Just beat Mum a couple of games. She had Molly Maid and food service providers (and card players) today, Saturday Happy birthday Florence, Tom and Mary had a picnic at the farm.
All of a sudden there are brilliant pops of colour appearing as if by magic on the maple trees. I thought we weren’t going to get colour just bareness but?
We hear Gary Q was injured in an accident, get well soon.
Hey, what is more annoying than one bothersome fly? Two of them! Fall!!
Lots of little Warblers cleaning leaves off these days; Black and white, black, yellow headed.
Bubs brought me another little kangaroo mouse! How do I say thank you? She’s so proud! She does well, for I think she’s blind in one eye. She has one eye that swells to about 3 times its size. Sometimes the inside eyelid comes down, it has been like this for years, but it doesn’t seem to bother her.
Busy sawing sounds next door, and my kind neighbour has the most infectious laugh, part of morning sounds.
Hey I just saw the first wooly bear of the fall.
Dead skunk, cribbage skunk all smell the same. Gib and Florence cards, the guys I think, won the most. Hey rain, after a week of wonder weather
