“Heaven”

I have a thing about the sky above

It’s a neverending story of my love

Of rainbows in their glory when they call

Of rain and pretty snowflakes as they fall

The clouds with all their patterns I review

And wonder how they daily still renew

The magic in their shades of gold to greys

To sunrises and sunsets most of days

Majestic like the Eagle too they soar

And I this humble earthling can’t ignore

The majesty that floats above so high

No wonder folks see heaven in the sky!

A toad in my shoe, a kangaroo mouse in the cat’s bed?

I hate that we still don’t have a post office here. Just down to South Baymouth to post my parcel to the “Great Grands”, so while there Mum and I had lunch at Carol’s and Earl’s.

Tuesday—Just woke up. Missed some of the good stuff on America’s Got Talent! It’s just like being in the desert checking for scorpions. I shake my shoes now before sliding my feet in!

Today we had our Sr. U.C.W. meeting at Diane’s. Back into the season again, just basic. We had a bakeless bake sale and made $85. Not bad I’d say! Diane served a wonderful lunch afterwards. Chili, soup, cheese, crackers, dessert! More like supper!

Tara and I have come to the conclusion that if there’s going to be anything strange or unusual seen or found, it happens to me! Now I’m wishing I had paid more attention to what I called a kangaroo mouse. In the North American Wildlife book it looks like the kangaroo rat, but didn’t have any fuzzy stuff on the end of its tail. For another thing, only in Southern states or at least warmer climates. It did have coarse and kind of long brown fur, not mouse-like at all. I swear the tail was at least twice as long as its body (body about 6 1/2 to 7 inches). So what new species to Manitoulin did I “not” pay attention to? Tara looked up all kinds on the internet. I didn’t see it listed. Fortunately I showed Tara it—my witness! Well in this day of International travel, perhaps it was just holidaying on Manitoulin! Of course it was gone from where I threw it? No second look.

After cribbage on Wednesday we met Gib and Florence at Carol’s and Earl’s for supper. Florence is happy to be home for good now and she can do her own therapy. I hear Rod was visiting them for a couple of days. Overload boat—he had to drive home!

At cribbage there were four tables. High hands, 24, Marg and Audrie; first, 950, Bill and Betty Jean; second, Audrie and Del; third, Eugene and Dorothy; low, 852, Bert and Joy; door, Audrie.

Bev and Elaine were on K.P. duty. Dorothy, Betty Jean and I work the door and scoreboard. Eight and a half tables. Euchre scores: high, Bill and Barry, 75; Rick and Jim, 74; Betty Jean and Lloyd, 73 and 6 lone hands; Brian and Helmut, 72; low, Clive and Lyla, 51; door prize, Eugene. The girls usually send sandwiches to Mum and/or her neighbours. I took her a nice hot cup of coffee too.

Don’t take your hummingbird feeders down. There are still a lot in my yard, but then if they really hitch hike on the wild geese? I would say some of the sandhill cranes have gone. The fields seem barer.

Great to see some of the Sagle family I hadn’t seen for years.

Cal went with Barb to her Sudbury appointments.

Sure is pouring rain as I write this Saturday. I went to the Manitowaning euchre on Friday with Dorothy, Betty Jean, and Bill who was today’s taxi driver. I didn’t hear who won the prizes (bathroom break!), but no one was cheering in the car going home. Thanks Lyna for being my partner!

Thinking of Mary Ann Pilon who is hospitalized in Ottawa as I write.

Well hurry, hurry! Made a chocolate cake. The memorial tribute to Don Chilton’s life had many family members, connections and friends. The tables held wild flowers in Don’s honour. Emceed by Ed Sagle—some of the story and memories. Family members spoke memories/stories. Music by Ken Elford and Maurice Labelle. Mum and I did a song for Joyce. Many photographs and a movie were accessible to all for viewing. Triangle Club members made and served sandwiches. Sagle family and friends provided desserts. A lovely tribute.

I skunked Mum and beat her one of three after the memorial. Simon called and was cooking up a big spaghetti dinner, absolutely delicious. Pauline, Wayne, Mum, Cal and I learned a new game called “Oh Crap” (well not exact word, but it’s a great game). Easy too.

George Hamilton IV passed away. We have good memories of this nice man, and his music fundraisers for Knox Church. Speaking with Kemp (Morton) about him at Brown’s store after church.

At Carol’s and Earl’s today—Terry, Kathy, Borden, Joan, Corrine, Mum and I. Boy did the wet stuff come down, eh! Our sermon today was excellent!

Corrine just got home and on her answering machine was the news of Cecil Hindman’s death. He just went home from here on Friday. I went around this evening to visit her and Mum had the idea at the same time—after I beat her a few games of cribbage. It’s been a good week for me that way.

Eileen Leeson phoned also with the news of Cecil too.

I was talking to Joan on the phone this morning. Cal too. Said he wasn’t feeling so hot. Darned weather causing all sorts of ailments. Thanks Jean for your note! Hello friends/hello “Toronto Fans”! Have a good, and I pray, healthy week.
