Tehkummah Talk and Times

In bed 10 p.m., a busy day August 5. Can’t believe how we are losing our daylight hours already. Big flocks of sandhills and wild geese; billowing fall cloud formations. As beautiful as those skies are, tell me bad news is coming soon! And that’s not at a theatre near you! A nice day, did some road coverage, met a nice lady. I had been playing phone tag with Isobel Harry for a week or so.

Marg Reckahn (Ray’s Mum) took Tara, Ray and I to supper at the Budd Pavilion. The pulled pork and beef was delicious as were the side dishes and ice cream and great toppings available. It was Marg’s birthday; I didn’t know that until we got home. We should have been treating!

The cold and windy morning deterred some, I’m sure, from taking in the yard sale and bake sale at the Little School House Museum. They had lots of good choices. Looked busier around noon.

Tara and Skylar watched the hatchlings go this morning.

I looked at one of the graveyards there today, I was impressed with the work that has gone on there, and the nice crosses marking the sites.

There were some new booths at the market this time too, across from Isleaway honey.

I liked Lorie’s new cribbage song; I hear she wrote it for Keith!

Marie Caradona, known to us as Maudie way back when, spent some time visiting her sister Dorothy Allard. By golly another week gone, I need to finish up my column maybe!

Cherry chip birthday cake made by Skylar for both Grandmas. Margo’s the 5th and Sherry’s the 6th. So we had to sing the Happy Birthday song twice at the Reckahn house Sunday evening where the birthday celebration was held! The bunch of them went to see the spectacular fireworks in Little Current. Cal and I went to Mindemoya for a card game with Gib and Florence, although the girls got skunked on the first game. We did very well from there on in! After the cribbage afternoon on Wednesday, I went back to the camp, a large family gathering, and potluck style. There was a fire pit where some folks made s’mores after. The food as always great, the fellowship greater!

Dave, Christine, Tatyana and Ava were staying at the camp. They are from Sudbury. Pete, Leanne, Ava, Jean and Leah stayed at Bears Inn; they are from Waterloo. Pauline, Dave, Tara, Ray, Jacob and Skylar, Jacob’s home for a while. Nice family get-together; Pauline and I were singing some old songs that the young girls had never heard. We were all female sitting around the picnic table, some dancing, like ballerina style?

Cal missed this one. He was giving his friend/cousin Lloyd Thomas a shoulder, as he had fallen on Tuesday on the ferry and dislocated his kneecap. Get well soon!

A nice turn out for Bid Euchre on Thursday night at the hall, Yogi and Jeanine were on K.P. duty; first, John Novak, 212 points; second, Dave James, 197; Brad Parkinson, 196; low, Marg Case, 21; door prize, Margaret McCarthy. We had seven tables for cribbage on Wednesday.

This has been my week for Omega 3s as I’ve had fresh fish almost every day. Kim left some, Pete brought me rainbow and speckleds, and I bought whitefish at Mindemoya Monday morning. Heather, Debbie, Alicia, Lori, Susan and I met at the Garden Shed for the day after Sherry’s birthday breakfast, Rita’s idea. She and Sherry came together, then Rita’s friends Maribeth, Rob and Paul joined us. Needless to say, a great get-together. Garden Shed provided the décor, birthday candle in trifle, we sang, Linda and Andy came in, they had the same idea, celebrating Linda’s day, 7th.

Coming up on August 20 the Fairview United Church‘s 120th anniversary. Morning service 11:30 am, followed by a pot luck luncheon at the hall; please help us celebrate this milestone!

Friday’s market didn’t seem as busy as last week, lots of fresh garden produce available, lots of fruit. It’s always good to have folks stop and say hello. This week Lise Farquhar (it’s been a while), Anita Bowerman and Mike. Dorothy Glasby and granddaughter Darcy. Marge and Carl, Eagle’s Nest. I’d seen them at card practice.
