Monday, May 29, a drive to Mindemoya. I took some red trilliums and Jack in the Pulpit for Jan McQuay’s mum’s nature trail. I walked with her, stepping over the scented lilies of the valley and the beauty of the long stemmed purple violets. In the back here, Ray’s mushrooms are taking precedence over trillium/ wild flower space. Jan and I shared a visit over a cup of coffee at the café. She has been using some of my poetry in her calendars, and I feel quite honoured. My real reason I guess was I needed a signal light bulb and that was quickly taken care of by the nice folk at Manitoulin Chrysler. Drove home under black skies, took some stuff for roadside planting after I got home and got soaked in the process. If I had waited fifteen minutes? Ray brought me some shitake mushrooms they are growing well already. Call him, 705-859-2613. I went to Manitowaning town with Joan. We stopped for a snack at Loco Beanz, and Sherry joined us.
Euchre at the Tehkummah hall, 7:30 Tuesday evenings. K.P. duty, Eileen and me. Good to see the Chatwell gang back. Raymond and I started off, seventeen the first game, and luck continued. Just crawled into bed elevenish. What an interesting afternoon/evening. The first time I’ve been involved with the Relay for Life. Probably wouldn’t have thought of it, except the McGauley/ Hall cousins got their team together, they won, second on their decorating, silver wings theme. Third was Saddle Up; and first, Fishing for a Cure. Congrats all! The survivors t-shirts were given out before the buffet for survivors. Then we marched past an honor guard, with us survivors’ carrying yellow or blue balloons to our seats for the opening ceremony. After Oh Canada/ prayer Joey Fox (Drum) tribute, MCs told of how cancer affected their families. A young lady named Kendra told of her Mum’s long-standing battle with cancer. We got organized to walk the track, and with a countdown all balloons were released at the same time. How emotional I was, we all were. The girls joined me as I started my walk, Tara, Lori, Heather, Debbie, Chrissy, Victoria, Alexis, Whittier and Sherry came later (my walk was short).
Saturday I saw the goose family at the Blue Jay Creek/10th sideroad. They have five good chicks of goslings. I stopped to visit, and he was not sociable!
Hey, Sis Susan has a birthday on the near horizon! She forgot to remind me! I walk past my lazy girl chair because there’s a cat in it. No room on the couch. At least the bed was empty! Hey, The Silver Wings came second in the competitions. The Relay raised $38,000. Isn’t that amazing? I heard a rumor that one person paid $100 for a hamburger, like keep the change!
Met officially Tammy’s friend Jeff at the Garden Shed. A man called Wayne, travelling through, said to be sure to say hello to my Mum. Watched ferry traffic, 130 bicyclists got off the ferry, and joined by 100? Locals too. Anyway lots of cyclists for the Passage Ride.
Cal visits; Tara gives her report, home at 6. We drive to South Baymouth, lunch at Carol’s and Earl’s. Met the Albrechts, Tammy, Kenneth and their son. The new folks on the Bob McCulligh farm, more nice folk to welcome to the area.
Eileen phoned this morning about tomorrow’s meeting, and then Bev called to cancel hers. They’ve both been (not dancing) with El Virus. She’s mean. Me, I’m still in bed, but I am thinking of getting up (soon?). Maybe today? Popped in to Mum’s last evening with a few pretty lilacs. Susan was playing cards with her. I wasn’t going to but did a couple. We both won one. I had just got back from Cal’s where we, Florence and I, had quite a few games. I think they may have won an extra, but we gave the guys a skunk. We had met at South Baymouth, fish and chips for supper. Mindemoya’s Wilda and Wally sat on one side of us, Kate and Rick the other. The motorcyclists had been to Sudbury on Saturday. Ross and Susan Ward took a few days to go to the car show. It’s all about Fords, I think? (In the States.)
