Tehkummah Talk and Times

Monday, Mum made me French fries for my lunch. She skunked and beat me but I did a “better” skunk, then I left.

I went to Bingo but was weary and glad to get home.

Right now I have some Irish soda bread in the oven for our cribbage lunch today.

Tuesday I had an early doctor’s appointment. Picked up Ed (Haggith) on his way shopping. Dr. Martina is a nice young lady. Afterwards, did some laundry, where this young man comes in and asks if this is the car wash? What a lovely surprise. My nephew Steve Martin, his mum right behind him. So Mum and I got an invite to supper. Another nice man comes in and tells me he worked with my brother at Budd’s. Tom and Ed too. His name is Ralph McKenzie and says he lives on the Island. (I didn’t ask where?) A trip to Foodland where I jammed my finger pretty purple, ouch! Drugstore too. I hurried home, went unloaded some, around to the birthday party in full swing. Mary Hall is the only March Birthday. The musicians, Darrell and Lyle Dewar, Carol Gilmore and Wayne Smith. I was glad when lunch was served. Quite a while since breakfast. Went home to rest, but remembered the supper invite, called Mum. Soon we were there enjoying their company. Delicious pork chop dinner and birthday cake Wayne and  Steve brought up, and one game of Tiki, home before 10. Golly, it’s not even 11am and I’m done in this morning, I just cannot cut it anymore. (I think that’s how they wrote the song, too old to “cut” the mustard anymore??)

Cribbage: five tables, great lunch!

High hand, Bert, 24; first place (not a misprint), Ruth; Cal and Pat, 926; second, Betty Jean and Bill, 924; Bert and Joy, 907; low (not a misprint?) 850.5, Graham and Sheila; door, Joy and Dorothy.

I forgot to mention in last week’s column that on Saturday night Sherry and Dave came to Cal’s for a game of sequence, fun. Dave looked rested. The week before at their place he was having knee pain. The wild March winds have my lawn chairs upside down. Yes we have been sitting out in the sun already. So lovely (not I think.)

Was it crimson or vermillion with shades of hot pink? But it disappeared in an instant it seems. The glorious start left grey clouds behind?

Made a chocolate cake for euchre lunch. Martin was in while it was baking and brought a St. Patrick’s Day card. I just mentioned it was 62 years ago, my wedding day? Happy Birthday to Brian McCarthy. Tara just brought me in the most beautiful burgundy Hydrangea.

The news is out! Two bears in town! Fairly new residents I’m assuming! Careful. Friday’s sky: apricot, plum, grape and tangerine. Makes you hungry, doesn’t it? (Sunrise.)

The wearing of the green showed up, all the Irish at the Tehkummah hall, a lady with green hair, and an Irish cowboy? They do say things are a mite strange if you live there too?

Ten and a half tables at euchre. First, Graham and Sheila; 90; Second, Janice and Sharlene, 80; third and fourth ties, Burt and Joy and Blaine and Pat, 76; low, Gib and Florence, 43; four skunks were awarded, and refused? Door prize; Bill Case (pulled his own?). Joan (Beard) and I were on K.P. duty. Joan did lots, as I played partner with Dave James.

Right now my windows are blooming, actually the prettiest part of my environment. Geraniums getting busy. A red and a white Amaryllis, each with four lovely blooms.

Cal and I drove out to Barney’s on Saturday always-meet lots of folk we know. Rodney was away in Sudbury visiting Carole (Middaugh) who we hear is not too well. God’s Blessing and care.

On Friday evening Sherry took me in to the healing service at Knox Church. Lots of lovely hymns sung. Bill Sawyer sang. Blessing and healings to all who were there. Thanks, Martin. Refreshments served afterwards.

The first crocus popped up this week. Actually the neighbour’s cat almost bombed it!

Hey, all you wonderful people have a Happy Easter. Thanks for all the thoughts and cards. Good Friday service S.B.M. 11:30. Easter Sunrise Service at Fossil Hill, at St. Andrews, 7AM.

Met Bob and Terry Smith from Sandfield on Sunday at Carol’s and Earl’s. Saturday evening the “Girls” had a get together, always lots of laugh? Love those sisters of mine and their sense of humor. Susan has a way of looking at life?

Some cute barnyard stories; I’m laughing as I write. Dancer, her little horse, stole her earmuffs. Pauline read a story from 2002 that Susan had written us, laughed till tears were falling! My daughter too. We missed Lori who was enjoying curling, got home about 11, I think.

A dog and deer in Gordon’s and Anstice’s fields tonight. We only saw four from South Baymouth out. I guess they’re all back home again. We had supper at the usual place, so busy tonight, as it was this afternoon, Mum and I, and Elaine (Bosje) then. Good to have her with us again. “I will follow him” Today, Palm Sunday’s, sermon.

Signs of spring around South Baymouth. Dave and June are back getting Pierside set up for another season. Good to see their smiling faces. Sherry gave me a cute little yellow rose, and a very welcome and happy spring to all.

Good to see Helen O. out and about with her family.

More signs of spring. The “Browns” are reappearing in South Baymouth too! Just like the robins.

Got a nice, long phone call from Derek this morning 6:30 here, but had just got in from work out in MacKenzie. He says just a couple more weeks of logging there.
