Tehkummah Talk and Times

Monday, twice in a row, a knock on my door. Marg (Case) bearing gifts and I just got back in my chair and Elaine (LePage) just came over from Sudbury to deliver gifts. She brought the most beautiful huge poinsettia for our church service on Christmas Eve and Sunday. She said her Grands were selling them for their school and Lisa, she says, is moving back to Ontario (from Montana) in the spring. Today the family photo cards, Ava Jean and Leah (McCauley) and Brody and Bently (Dymond). So at the moment I’m feeling a mite emotional!

The day before Christmas, I read last week’s column. Sure didn’t make much sense, the words that I wrote. I’ll have to take time with my words to make sense. Instead what I read seemed mostly nonsense. Is it my writing or spelling I wonder as I tried to make sense of those words put asunder? The best I can do is try harder this time and hope you understand.

Doesn’t feel like Christmas Eve here. My place has been busy as I nap between visitors and phone calls. Helen phones, Sherry too, Kim phones Wednesday evening. I wasn’t too surprised at my verdict on Tuesday. But I have no choice but to go with the flow. Sherry once again totes me to my appointments and I appreciate that. I’m quite a bother you know! Roads good on the way home. We saw Irwin and Orpha in GT in Espanola. I said hi to Carol Lee there too. Outside Kings Buffet in Sudbury, Shawn White (Mildred Sauders granddaughter Ha!) Laughed at me trying to get into the wrong car? He’s sure like his dad! He was with Billy. Keep well Audrie.

Christmas Eve, I got badly skunked twice, and beat once, barely won one against Cal. Went back to Susan’s where she had a full house of Christmas holidayers (family). Speaking of full houses, Fairview United Church was full to the brim with Christmas spirit, many readers, Pauline and granddaughter Alicia lit the advent candles. Linda McNaughton sang a solo, Mum, Pauline and I (a trio), Martin (jokingly) sang Beautiful Star and Silent Night. Lovely and the Christmas music and story ever old, ever new, each year. Inspired! On a mild, beautiful, moonlit Christmas Eve.

I don’t know why all of a sudden the days seem so long, even with all my naps in the middle. Lord only knows I need more time in a day (for sleeping).

Just before church Mum puts a lovely big goose egg on her head. She reached up for a vase from the shelf. It popped her good. She refused to wear the bag of hash browns to church that I fished out of her freezer??

A phone call from Derek and Jodi on Christmas morning got me up and going. I didn’t know what they were doing up at 4am unless trying to catch old Santa. Christmas morning and breakfast spent next door, and later at Sherry and Dave’s for supper with the family again. Kim and Kathy phoned in the evening. Everyone is worried about me.

Mum went up to emerg on Saturday. She has a very pretty face now. She didn’t slow back on the cards though! I still got beat, redeemed myself on Sunday.

She has new neighbours in Corrine’s apartment next door. Brenda and Grant (Hemming) are staying there. They came from Alberta for her brother’s funeral. Sympathy to the family in the loss of Wilbert Overfield who has been ailing for quite some time. Cal and I went to the Wake at Island Funeral home on Tuesday evening. We got back to his place just ahead of the first big snow storm of the season. He made BBQ wings, our very late supper delicious! I won at cards!

New Year’s Day 2016. As we walk or crawl into a newer and better year, I wish you all good health and good fortune, sunny skies and music in your heart!

And speaking of music in your heart and soul, and dancing feet, many folks enjoyed the celebration of the New Year at the Tehkummah hall. “The old stompin grounds”. I saw lots of old friends enjoying themselves. As Joanne and Jim Smith said, “Tehkummah sure knows how to throw a party.” The best time ever, great music, great food, good fun! Legion bar, Robbie and his band of music makers were fabulous, and apparently a Valentine dance is coming up February 6th. Same great music! You won’t want to miss! They had four spot dances, and four door prizes, 50/50 was worth $101.00.

Most of the family was together and a good time was had by all.

Kim and Kathy arrived on the Island on Wednesday evening 30th. A good trip by all reports. They’re staying with Sherry and Dave. Marg Reckahm headed back to Elliot Lake on Thursday morning.

I sure got lots of Happy Birthday wishes on Thursday too. Lots of phone calls and one from Friend Jean (Livingston) in Hamilton, Derek and Jodi (Mackenzie BC) (They both had the flu).

January 3 2016

New year, new beginnings.

Home today after a fabulous time (once again) with family. Sherry and Dave had a full house. We pot lucked on Friday, Marion and Doug, Pauline and Wayne, Susan, The Reckahns, Lori and Rick, Kim and Kathy, Cal and I. An amazing amount of food. I got a birthday cake and song and many lovely gifts. Santa Claus came again too.

Most of us did instant replay on food on Saturday. Snacked the day away, played more games. Tiki, cribbage, Sequence. Kim, Lori and Jacob and Musie. Kim and Kathy hit the road back to Clarksburg about 10:30 today. Kathy is going to meet up with Sherry, Susan and I on Wednesday morning in Barrie when I go through my testing pre-op stuff.

Mum sounds some better.

Busy phone this Monday, January 4. A call from Martin wishing me well. It’s just tests though for Wednesday for me. My first phone call from Cal was full of sad information. Sympathy to the families of Norma Vanzant Hembruff, Royce Vanzant and Vivian Bowerman. Vivian has been in the hospital the last couple of weeks. A long and hardworking member of our Triangle Club. A good neighbour (our farm was next door).

The phone rang—Loretta Mucha called wishing me well, and the news that Dorothy (Hembruff) Smith had passed away. She’s been in a nursing home in Keswick, and spent many summers in their cottage at South Baymouth. Wayne (her hubby) did many a service at St. Andrew’s By The Sea, South Baymouth and three family weddings that I know of!

Thank you to all who are sending prayers my way. To all who gave me beautiful gifts for Christmas and my birthday. I am truly blessed, and am so fortunate to live here on this beautiful Island.

The deer broke/bent my pole down that my bird feeders hang on (the little darlings). Kim made me a beautiful big feeder. I’m going to have to put it on a pole with an elevated system. I see the pole is completely down this morning!
