Tehkummah Talk and Times

On Tuesday afternoon our hosts Lorna and Robert Russell opened their home once again for our annual Christmas U.C.W. get-together. We had a fabulous potluck “dinner” about 2 pm served on a beautifully set table near a gorgeously decorated Christmas tree. In attendance were Joan and Borden, Noreen and Reg, Pauline and Wayne, Terry and Kathy, Martin and Lynda, Richard and Bev, Audrie, Reta and Jean (Mum). After the meal the guys visited (and did dishes) upstairs while we had our meeting downstairs. Roll Call was Christmas carols. A Christmas gift exchange was held after the meeting, where our executive got back in by acclamation. It was a lovely afternoon. Thank you so much!

Wednesday was a balmy morning with lovely sunshine. Met Lorraine Reardon in the post office. I hadn’t seen her in a while.

Got ready for cribbage. Had black bananas so made a cake. We sang Happy Birthday to Cal, whose official day was Tuesday. There were four tables today. High hand, Lyla, 20 (glad to see her back); first, Gib and Florence, 954; second, Bert and Joy, 930; third, Ted and Dorothy, 903; low, Mary and Jean, 796; door, Lyla and Dorothy.

Eugene Pyette had eye surgery for a detached retina on Tuesday in Sudbury. Hope all is well now.

Helen Oswald is home again as of Tuesday, December 1. Stay well.

The Triangle Club money raffle winners: Velma Pheasant, $500; Simon Gironard, $300; Lorna Russell, $200. Tickets were drawn at the turkey supper. Congratulations winners!

The afternoon euchre had seven tables. Bev and Richard were on K.P. duty. I did a better job of partnering this time. First, Lois and Marg, 80; second, Donna and Sharleen, 76; third, Raymond and I, 75; fourth, Eva and Reta, 72; door prize, Eila; lone hands, 7, Donna and Sharleen (I think); low, Margaret and Janet (I think).

I surprised Colleen Castleton on Friday when I walked in to her office a month early. Actually needed two chores done. John was saving himself some money, trouble, fire? Mouse nest in valuable equipment. (Cheers a fella up!)

On my way home I stopped in and let Cal skunk me at cribbage. Things have not been going my way lately. Darn!

I never turn the Telethon on but I’m watching it. I hear some beautiful voices. I was impressed with the kick boxers and their routine set to music.

Another trip to emerg today, maybe? I was late getting back to the hall for the music show. Some good dancers again too. They are starting their dance classes again in the New Year (west end).

Dave Southwood has a good mix of music. Some of his own compositions too. The bass player Lance (Smiley) Panamick and the drummer Johnny B (Fisher). The Triangle Club sold soup, sandwiches and desserts. Jr. Chisholm won the 50/50 and donated it back to the club.

Telethon brother and sister team (Baby It’s Cold Outside) was nice. Fell asleep right after a cute song about the attributes a man needed to have. I woke up in time to see Robbie Shawana on the telethon. Hey, congrats Robbie!

The Jr. U.C.W. Breakfast with Santa was as always a great success. They fed a full house. It was a great meeting and visiting time. I played hookey from church today, and instead played cribbage at Cal’s after breakfast. I do believe Florence and I were the champs today. Then on my way home I challenged Mum. We tied up 2-2. She issued one more challenge much to her dismay and I went home smiling.

Monday morning was like a day in Spring. The buds will be popping on the trees, not good! But a good morning for burning my junk up. Cleaned the yard some more.

Pauline phoned and invited me to Mum’s for lunch. Mum and I sang while they decorated and put the tree up. Apparently Susan made bean soup. I like it but it’s to give me some go power and like energy badly needed. Ha!

I found this page when writing and I don’t know if it ever got in my column, probably a couple of weeks back. The donation of a sound system was gratefully accepted by the Tehkummah Triangle Club for community hall use.

Remnants from Big Sky days when Al Ryan and Susan Hart had their own great musical duo. Thanks so much to both of you! God Bless.
