Tehkummah Talk and Times

Here we are past hump day (why did it get a name change)? The past two nights, I was watching “The Voice” on TV and woke-up about quarter after three in the morning, and then figured I might as well go to bed! So now I’m awake!

Tonight (or yesterday) my sis Susan took me to supper at “The Roosterant,” we left home in a snowstorm to find mid-island balmy? Well, at least it wasn’t snowing. I’m still waiting for spring (last that is).

I, for the first time, went to a Ladies’ Night at Mindemoya Home Hardware. What beautiful displays and choices and decorations, tempting, but, this year we had all decided not to buy for each other for Christmas. We live in a world of too much. I say if you want to give me a gift, give a few bucks to the food bank or a new car! (For me that is!) But to continue, I had a lovely time, wished we hadn’t gone out to eat first, with all the lovely food and drinks set out. Met all my neighbours and aren’t the staff so friendly and helpful there!

Today was cribbage, only three and a half tables and lots of desserts; thanks everyone who brings. We’re losing our players to curling and going home. Today, I made a birthday cake for Audrie and Margaret. First place: Mom and Mary, Third: Gib and Florence, Low: Bert and Audrie- 889. High hand: Dorothy and Mary, Door: Bert and (sorry, lost my list).

Happy Birthday to Mom, 25th, and Barb Bowerman, 25th. Cal’s is coming up on December 1st.

Talked to Hank’s friend J.R. this week at the store, here for the hunt. Not a lot of deer got down their way this season he says.

Our Decoration/Remembrance Day program at the Tehkummah Triangle Club was led by Martin Garniss.

A nice lot of folk attended, despite the fact it wasn’t that well advertised. The usual respect rendered, In Flanders Fields read, and a few wartime songs sung; and of course snacks.

Bible Study at Pauline’s home on Thursday, quite a few attended a follow-up on Angels from the week before. Good snacks, cheese ball etc. set out, delicious. Some of the folk from there were going to Terry and Kathy’s for supper. They were having a houseful, sounded fun.

Barry O’Neil had surgery this past week in Sudbury. Sunday, talking to Mary, she said Barry came home on Thursday. Get well soon.

Seeing as there was no euchre on Thursday evening (not enough there), I went down to Cal’s and beat him a couple of games of cribbage. He was easy to beat (ha), he’s been troubled with a bad back lately.

So sorry to hear of Sylvio’s bad accident on Thursday morning and on the loss of his pet Bean. He has since had surgery and is doing well.

The evening grosbeaks have made their appearance as of today, Friday 14th, lots around the feeder.

Euchre Tournament Thursday night, 8pm, Tehkummah. Also the Christmas Fair is November 29th.

When you’re in St. Andrew’s by the Sea, make sure you admire the lighted windows, well only one so far, beautiful. Ray Leeson is putting them together to frame the cross. Speaking of St. Andrews and their wonderful line up of help, organizers and cooks pulled off another delicious turkey dinner on Saturday evening serving over 400 including take-outs and volunteer help.

I hear congratulations are in order for Bert Bosje who was the $500 winner of the Triangle Club Money Draw!!!

While I was parked in his spot Rob Gill and his mom Corrine and the grand-dog arrived from Sarnia for the hunt.

Sunday we had a wonderful guest speaker, singer, bringing the message (what a beautiful singer) “Mary Did You Know?” and “Remembrance”, the latter I had never heard before. He had also written a book for kids, if you get a chance to hear Errol Lee you would like him.

Corrine, Mom and I went to C & E’s after, Mary (Yett) only one of our group today. Bert and Audrey were already at another table. We weren’t home too long; Mom and I went as far as Cal’s and he drove us to the camp for the feast! Poached fish, smoked fish, goose, chicken, 2 different cabbage rolls, 2 kinds of baked beans, salad trays, salad, Shepherds Pie, macaroni etc., etc.; Hank, Kim, Steve, John and Dave, long distance hunters, Steve and Ed Copp too, Tavis and Alicia (Gore Bay), Wayne, Sherry and Ray, local hunters (did I miss anyone?) Lori, Rick and Jase, Tara, Jacob and Skylar, Pauline and Mom, the famous bun maker. Saluted again for her Birthday. Audrie and Mom recognized Saturday evening, and at Church today too. A two-team contest led by Kim and Sherry. Sherry’s team 3 points behind, darn it! Valuable prizes won by Kim’s team. A new Trophy Big Buck: Kristopher’s 13-point deer was recognized in Kris’ absence. Everett’s absence from the camp group was recognized with a moment of silence. Sweat shirts given to the Big Buck winners from the past 13 years or so. I have done fairly well at Cribbage this week, yes!

Pauline spent an overnight in hospital. Grand-pa had to come to Cole’s rescue on Sunday morning, those snowy roads. Tara was off the road last Monday. Susan took Pauline up to have her Holter monitor removed. They lunched at The Roosterant where they again met with Martin, Lynda and Errol.
