Tehkummah Talk and Times

“Today”
There’s always tomorrow
To run the good race
To say the kind words
That time can’t erase.
There’s always tomorrow
To do the kind deed
To visit your neighbour.
There’s time, but take heed
The master is counting
The hairs on our head
The time that we have
A thought we all dread.
There’s always tomorrow
But tomorrow won’t come
If our life here on earth
Is left, counted by One.
There’s always tomorrow
That’s what we all say
So start giving, and living

Three girls hurriedly making sandwiches on Thursday evening, Oct. 30th, two and three quarters tables for euchre.

Waiting to see if there were enough to play. Ladies’ high, Ruth, 77 and 7 lone hands; low, Dorothy, 51.

Men’s high, Raymond, 70; low, Andy, won on a cut; Raymond, 2 lone hands; door, Andy.

Well Halloween played its usual nasty trick weather-wise; bravest dressed- the Roman Gladiator who showed lots of bare skin (Taylor). We had some wonderful costumed folk come to the door (17); two girls collecting for the food bank wouldn’t take treats. The party at the hall was fun, lots of prizes, goodies, etc. Jellybean nose push, Hot Pumpkin, Pass the Pumpkin, and Witchy Says, but about eight young folk were too smart for Witchy, good job Lou. Good snacks, thank you Jr. U.C.W, I noticed many young folk coming up after and thanking the ladies; what lovely manners kids, sure is nice.

Susan is coming to Mom’s today (Monday 3) for lunch. I’m going to be an auntie, she says. She has an egg hatching over there; she’ll have to knit socks.

I recently met John and Wendy Noble, new homeowners in Sandfield (Betty McGregor’s house). Welcome to our area.

I just had the most delicious liver supper, and spinach and spuds. I stopped at Freshmart Manitowaning. I just decided to cook the liver about seven o’clock. Joan and I had a bite to eat at Queen Street General, probably about 1 pm. I had gone to town with Betty Jean for Clive Hughson’s funeral. Very nicely done by Martin with a super eulogy by his niece. I walked down town after visiting with Eva Bond and Reta Parkinson. Joan had planned to go to the funeral too, but her bones were too bad this am. We sat with Sherry and Mary at lunchtime; Bert Bosje had a coffee with us. Joan and he both had doctor’s appointments; we checked-out “Nack’s”, they have a whole lot of new clothes.

Hello cousin Colleen in the Sault.

A cat on my lap, a cat on my arm and a loudly singing cat on the back of the chair I’m sitting in.

Wednesday AM: Talking to Betty-Jean on the phone this AM and to my sis Susan. Their little hen, the one the skunk had hold of, hatched-out a little chick named Waynette, named in honour of the man who saved the mama from the skunk. Late for babies isn’t it? And only one? But the mama will keep it warm; they are very fluffy.

Happy Birthday Duane (Lanktree).

Happy Birthday (10th) Margaret (McCarthy).

Talking to Laura (W) Scott this am on the phone. She always sounds so cheery, and I gave her only bad news- Ward’s are in the roofing business these days!

Is it my imagination, my age, or what? It seems I’m always offering sympathy to someone lately, this week to Peggy (Baxter) in the Loss of her daughter; and to Ted and the Size family in the loss of Jean. My prayers are with you!

Hey Audrie Williamson, Happy 98th on the 15th, way to go girl!

This Friday morning I’m filling my shoeboxes. This year, some are going to the Ukraine. I shopped for them yesterday in Espanola. The bus trip was fun, neighbours catching up, visiting, and the “rowdys” were relegated to the back where much laughter and many songs were sung, going and coming. Lori brought her guitar (what a good idea). We shopped G.T. Boutique and the mall. Most folk hit the Dollar Store, and a few for Northern Reflections. We (most of us) had our lunch at Rusty’s. Thank you Bertha for getting us safely there and back. A good day. I went to euchre in the evening, three tables. Linda B. and I had 78 points, I lost the cut. She, Florence and I had three lone hands, Linda won, we lost the cut. Low, Pauline, 51; men’s high, Simo, 81; lone hands, Graham, 4; low, Andy, 54; door, Andy.

Darlene Young doing a re-read of your thanksgiving note, I’m sure I forgot to congratulate you on your Bracebridge Fall Fair winnings, pretty impressive. Just got the Muskoka Magazine Sunday, thanks Famous!

While I was petting Ginger this AM, I brought to her attention that the cat dishes are always empty, and the hundreds of birds keep the feeders empty; so the conclusion being- let the cats eat the birds, both problems solved, going broke buying food! Now I just told her if I take a drink of water, I’ll probably leak. She was piercing me with fussy toenails.

Friday afternoon I went with Pauline and Wayne to Espanola to celebrate the life of his great-niece Kelly. What an inspiration this girl has been to her family and friends during her battle with cancer! Even holding a backyard music fundraiser in the summer for the Cancer Society, raising $18,000. Many bands played music into the wee small hours. Obviously dearly loved by her family, and her positive attitude inspired everyone. Even I, who never met the girl (that I can recall) was so awed and so amazed by her likeness to Valerie, Wayne’s niece, and to our cousin Marie, brought back many memories to me. We sat with George, Tracy and Zachary; it was nice to see Peggy and Anne and their families, some beautiful girls and handsome men, and that grand kids- adorable. Those girls’ parents built Buckhorn Motel a few years back??

Kelly, too, was an amazing artist.

Got to say hello to Warren and Sacha at Canadian Tire; Tracy Sauder too, at the celebration of life.

Birthday Party: Triangle Club, all welcome, Tuesday Nov. 18th, 1:30 pm. Sunday evening- Mom and I got home from Susan and Simon’s about nine, then I watched the movie “War Horse” (shed a few tears at that). Simon and I won the most card games! Each team scored a skunk though, a very nice afternoon and evening. Church today, Remembrance Day, full house. C & E’s afterwards: Borden, Joan, Susan, Simon, Mary, Martin, Lynda, Mom, Cole and I. The corner table held: Audrey, Burt, Joan, Gus, Darrel and Marlene.
