Tehkummah Talk & Times

“Stand By Me”. Wasn’t that the most beautiful rendition, I can barely see for the tears and the emotion. So, I missed the walk down the aisle, but I had a good excuse, I was sleeping. I spent all night being sick again, don’t know what’s going on. So far that’s four Friday nights in a row. Anyway, Meghan and Harry’s wedding was beautiful, of course, I’m thinking of Tara watching this as she is a lover and collector of Royalty since a very small child. Diana carried the flowers on to the plane out of Sudbury that she received from her years ago. I have a sweatshirt in my drawer of Diana and the flowers probably a collectible right? Yeah, I slept through the kiss too, but of course there are lots of reviews and will be for quite the time to come. I really liked Reverend Currie’s expounding on  “Love”, quite a shake-up in those royal surroundings, not so subdued Solemon.

Coming up soon is the memorial of Bernice Duggan. Colleen called me to remind me a while ago. Its June 9, 1 to 3 pm at the Tehkummah Hall.

Friday evening, I took a drive to South Baymouth to watch the ferry come in. There seem to be a lot of walk offs, only five motor bikes. As the ship pulled out, light prisms from all the glass refracting. Pretty.

The cow slips, marsh marigolds are giving the bogs a golden glow.

Had to make a quick run to take some pillows off the clothesline. Every time I nap, I miss something. At least the rain was warm, kind of wet though.

I see the dandelion birds at the feeder. They also love the dandelion seeds and fluff for nest building (Goldfinches).

Today, Sunday, I had a yellow headed black bird at the feeder. Hank, who is cutting wood in their swamp, said he saw a fisher at our Sherry and Ray’s camp and saw a scarlet tanager on camp road. Over the years I had seen them off and on there. I’ve got Idol on TV. But I’m writing with a cat on my lap too. Just back from the first BBQ at the camp, Sherry, Dave, Skylar, Ray, Hank, Mar, and Tara’s supper was late as she worked today. I got myself together and got to church. Lunch with Mary, Martin and Lynda (I just had toast) but sharing time is so good isn’t it. I made a salad and some biscuits, my contribution to our supper. “Gramma” Marg brought the steaks. Marg gave me some walking sticks, I just might use them!

The most beautiful sunset on my way home. I stopped at Susan and Simon’s, still lots of yard sale items. Susan said her rain toe was hurting, and it does today, looks like it might. This holiday Monday, how come the 24th of May isn’t? Isn’t government confusing enough?

Edgar and Rita are back in town. I was a bit lucky at bingo, Tara too. Trifecta or hat trick, my daughter is amazing. She got me too, and through all three appointments without a hitch. Well kind of, started off in the morning with both of us visiting Jose for our eyes (Espanola), next stop, the cancer unit for my check up with Dr. Shehata. They sent me for more bloodwork and are going to arrange a catscan and probably another surprise or two. Then over to visit my new cardiologist, Dr. Shukala, where I had a pre-test good passing grade. So that was good. We went, (Sherry was starving,) to King’s Buffet. Met Tweetie there (I asked her, as that was on her license plate) she had her Mum and aunt/sister? with her. She was teaching a course for PSW’s. They were from Cornwall, nice folks. Home by way of the Dollar Store and Walmart. I spent $22.50, kind of, I am ever grateful for this girl of mine and our nice visits. (Usually while travelling).

On Tuesday evening we had a little celebration at Tara and Ray’s to commemorate Sherry and Dave’s 41st wedding anniversary. I finally made tomato dumplings. They’ve been on my mind for a while. Of course, we had a good meal and a cake.

Mollie called this morning, I was sitting outside in the sun, at least an hour. So, I didn’t have to dry my dishes; they almost took care of themselves!

Today too, Judy and Dorothy brought cribbage results. I have to thank her for filling in for me. That was two weeks in a row, seven and a half tables: high hand, Hugh, 24; first, Laura and Patryshia, 949; second, Mary and Betty Jean, 942; third, Doris and Ted, 923; low, Donna and Hugh, 800; door, Doris, Rita and Dorothy.

Just returned from big euchre where I finally collected a prize. Might be because of the sit out table. But Brad was first, 244; I was second with 234; third, Rick, 226; low, Linda; 50/50 Janet; door prize, Dave N. Winner all sat at sit out!

Loco Beanz, Manitowaning is a pretty busy spot. I was watching them make some delicious pizzas while I enjoyed a good cup of coffee. I like the friendly atmosphere there. We’re lucky to have a good spot like that.

I had “Aunt Effie’s” burial that was on Saturday as well as Irwin’s, Chester’s too. Some folks got to more than one memorial tribute. Tara, Skylar and I took in the tribute to Carol Smith at the restaurant in South Baymouth. A lot of Carol’s family from away, and they helped with the lovely buffet luncheon. After, a few words by Martin Garniss and June McDougall. I sat with Betty Jean, Dick and Eunice. Nice to see Barb and Hugh back in the area again.

Have you noticed all the trees flowering with nests of tent caterpillars and all the billberry blossoming trees. The wild pears of Manitowaning are going to make quite a show this year?

We had a combined picnic supper Saturday evening on Tara and Ray’s side of the maple tree. The weather has been so lovely. I was driving to South Baymouth wrong way to church. Which I concluded was at Fairview today, when out of Scott’s field three prairie chickens came across the road in front of me. A surprise, I had been looking for some this spring! Coincidence? After church, Mary Yett and Sparky rode down to Carol’s and Earl’s. Mary and I had a snack!

Ray had been working hard to get the shitake mushrooms producing. I walked out to check Sunday, and they are coming along.

Hello, the lilacs and swallow tail butterflies timed it perfectly this year. Monarchs and mourning cloak all this week. A beautiful photo of a red trillium on my table. Thanks Jan McQuay. Glad to see they made it, I gave her some last year for her mother’s garden trail.

Have a good week all. My stupid hip is out more than I am now.
