Tehkummah Talk & Times

The tragedies and trauma of the last couple of weeks leave an emotional impact on us all. These things “don’t” happen in Canada. Right! I don’t watch news, but I have to admit the “big” scary news draws me. I feel for all the folk who have to deal with it. I empathize. This could help many become agoraphobic.

I was to Mindemoya this Tuesday morning for an ultrasound, was up again Monday afternoon with an issue of health.

Betty Jean took me with her as her partner to Providence Bay’s euchre tournament. We even got beat out for the low prize. Foggy drive home.

Quarter to four Wednesday, I just went to bed. I fell asleep early in my layzee-girl chair, just opened an Easter bunny parcel. Thanks, Pat. Received a note/card. So many of my friends have problems and issues. Herman Falter just came through another major surgery. Did I tell you before that he’s had heart surgery with his heart still beating? Isn’t it amazing what they can do!

Dorothy Cronk lost her sister Betty this week. She had been ailing for a while. So much sadness all around. Lorrie Lee got home just in time from her winter stay to be there for her brother Earl. Good to see her back at cribbage. We sure had a great smorgasbord to choose from for our lunch on Wednesday. A great crowd too. Eight tables, sounded like lots of fun all around: high hand, Sheila, 24 (there were about 10 to 20 hands too.); first, Jan and Dorothy, 949; second, Pat and Laura, 948; third, Cal and Rick, 930; low, Brad and Dorothy, 832; door, Rick and Lori Gordon and Bob Q.

It was just breaking daylight when I finally went to sleep. I woke with my head toward the back window. I’ve seen wild geese, sandhill cranes, crows and patchy clouds and the sun trying, a very small patch of blue. I don’t think I’ve slept too long. The pain in my innards isn’t as comfortable as it was yesterday.

I made it back from Mindemoya in time to play bid euchre, three and three quarters tables: first, Graham, 193; second, Pat Norton, 180; third, Stan Allen, 173; low, Dave J. minus 8; 50/50, Sheila; door prize, me.

In the evening I went and had a nice visit with Sis Pauline, the occasion, her Plenty Ninth birthday. She had a birthday luncheon with gifts and fun and stuff earlier at Bev Lynch’s home with Pat N. and Kathy.

Another week gone, another deadline. Even when I’m not on a deadline, I am. If that makes sense? Looks like a beautiful morning out there. The birds are singing, the robin is carrying nesting materials. I had a busy pain-filled Friday where I rested and reclined most of the day.

Saturday finally got moving, made some fudge too. Went to Little Current. Met up with cousin Dave and Barb McCauley and had a little street side visit. Checked out Barney’s store while there. Back down to our area to Sis Susan and Simon’s home, where she had prepared a wonderfully delicious birthday dinner for Sis Pauline. Afterwards, we played Tiki, Simon being the big two-time winner.

Dave McCauley says he has lots of deer in the region, and already 75 calves, looking for 120. I think he says, so they are very busy down on the farm.

Thinking of farm and home.

Ed and Shirley Sagle walked down to look at all my pretty crocus and snowdrops Sunday evening. They don’t stop by without bringing gifts. This time a lovely jar of maple syrup. They were busy once again this spring.

I picked Joan (cousin) up after church, and we went to Carol’s and Earl’s restaurant where we joined Pauline, Wayne, Martin, Lynda and Marty Yett who is back home again for a bit. She’s all over the place with her veterinary jobs.

Our Senior U.C.W. is not having a Mother’s Day tea on May 9.Tehkummah Seniors’ Club is. Check the date and time!

A phone call from Eileen Leeson this morning reminding me of the meeting Tuesday, and a going away for Bev and Richard Lynch. Eileen always sounds so cheery. How many years has she been on phone committee? Her cheery voice always makes your day. Thanks, Eileen, for your many years of devoted service. She says she is going to Sudbury Tuesday, yesterday, to visit her brother Ralph.

Valerie Smeltzer lost her mate this week. Our sympathy to you in the loss of Merv. I think he had been ailing for quite a while.

I had to call K and K to remind them that they missed me!
