Well, Betty Jean and I didn’t win at Mindemoya Euchre Tournament on Thursday night, but we sure had a lot of fun. They had ten tables, a lot of the same faces we see at the Tehkummah cribbage and euchres. Nice to say hello! We went to the hospital. Betty Jean wanted to check up on Bill, who was doing a short stay. So, we checked up on Marion. They were roomies. Marion was looking so much better than on Saturday. I had a short visit with Lyla (Chatwell) and Betty (Lentir) too.
Betty Jean and I hadn’t been home too long from Bid Euchre (four tables and one?). Maybe the cards keep our “minds” kind of sharp? First, Pat Novak; second, Hank; third, Doris; chocolate, Joshua; 50/50, Dave; door prize, Jan.
Cribbage, 5 and a half tables: high hand, Simon, 21; first, Mary and Margaret, 949; second, Ken and Brad, 939; third, Laura and Patrysha, 922; low, Bert and Joy, 846; good lunch.
Seemed strange to see the wild geese on the ferry dock at South Baymouth before the end of February on bare grass, and then on the ninth of March, four poor little robins on the middle of the street in Mindemoya trying to find a worm, or at least something edible, as there was snow as high as they were on the roadsides. Someone counted 121 deer last week in the fields towards South Baymouth too, grazing. The March like a lion and lamb thing does make one wonder.
What a busy Sunday, started by baking, breakfast at the Hall, a fair crowd I think. I saw Fran and Joe there, they gave breakfast a five-star rating. They seemed to have lots of helpers throughout the day. I took a church break, got to sing about smiling. We always have the best singing, I’m sure on the whole of Manitoulin. Even when I get to read or recognize it always seems to amaze me. I have to learn to button my lips! I’m always too quick on the draw with the Minister’s jokes and punch lines, darn it!
We had nine tables for euchre which was very good, and I think more of them stayed for supper, good desserts too. Nice to have Marg (Case) back home again, she spent a couple of weeks admiring her granddaughter. She liked the bid euchre story, thanks: Bert and Joy, 79; Pat and Laura, 76; tied with 73, Dorothy and Ted, and Laurene and Dave; low, Simon and Marg, 47; tied lone hands, 6, Bill and Brad, Hank and Joshua; door, Marion Hughson.
My daughter spent her weekend trying to find the missing parts of my house. She did very well!
I visited with them all at Tara and Ray’s Sunday evening.
Time change fooled a few people! Saturday afternoon our rolling techniques were put to the test. Then we had a delicious spaghetti supper and birthday cake for Wayne at Susan and Simon’s. We couldn’t sing the birthday song because of laughing. Sister Susan has her own flair for eye catching cake décor. TIKI games later, fun!
I heard that Jean Case is in Sudbury hospital getting pins put into a broken hip. We all need to be careful, I guess.
Lois Newton was my partner for euchre on Sunday, we missed low by one! Lots of fun though. If you want me for a partner, you can’t be serious. Don’t forget, you are all invited to join us Sunday at 11:30 am for a church service at the Tehkummah Hall. Pot luck afterwards, $5 charge, kids free, music too. Come prepared to sing, pot luck only if you prefer!
Top “O” the Mornin’ to ya’ all! Wear green!
