Tehkummah Talk & Times

Here we are into another week of chilly stuff. I’m counting down the day so. Busy they are. Tuesday and  my taxi driver today is Lorna and Bordie. She dropped me for a short visit. He drove Joan and I to Grill and Chill, where we met up with other U.C.W. members for our lunch. No meeting or valentine tea this month, but what a nice get together. Lorna, Bev, Lynda, Joan, Pauline, Elaine and I. Pauline made us all a gift, including her homemade black currant jelly. Bev brought a gift for a draw, and Joan won that. We took up a couple of hours of restaurant time, Jennifer was our waitress.

Monday, Betty Jean was my taxi driver. We went to Providence Bay for the bid euchre. What a lot of fun and laughs. They did the Happy Birthday song for Betty Jean and Lois Newton, good cake and ice cream too. Lois was first, Dave was second, Laurene third at cards, low? Tara and I went to bingo in the evening. She told me Marion Case had fallen and cracked a bone or something, get well quick. Shoulder too? Oh my gosh.

Free public Skating at the Providence Bay arena, Saturday, 7 – 9 pm; Sunday, 1 – 3 pm, come along for a family time. Rob (Gill) has been at his mom’s apartment. He’s been fishing a bit with John Novak.

Austin has been doing a great job keeping our sidewalks clean of snow, even to the Post Office. Much appreciated hall area. The Township roads are so much better this year, thank you very much.

Just heard today of Donna McGuire’s death, she was the nicest girl. I remember Jim bringing her out to meet us before they were married. We all went fishing for trout on the Blue Jay Creek.

Got a phone call, Susan was bringing Chinese food from Espanola for supper on her way home last evening from a Toronto quick trip.

Pauline and Wayne picked me up. Good food. After supper we had a Tiki game. Simon was the winner, I had the highest numbers, unfortunately the lowest wins. A super together time. Home around eight, commenting that if Mum had been there we would have been playing cards a lot longer.

Vivian called me today with news that Garnett Phillips had passed away. Sympathy to Yvonne and all the family. My prayers are with you all. Sympathy to the Shirley Lanktree family. My prayers are with you all.

Cribbage, icy underfoot. Good to see Bert and Joy back with us, Doris Bayers too, has been doing super well with her new knee. It’s like there’s a parts store out there these days. High hands today, Betty Jean and Sheila, 21; first, Bill and Ruth McG, 960; second, Mary and Margaret, 930; third, Dorothy and Brad, 910; low, Patrysha, Laura, 840; door, Sheila, Bert, me.

Bid euchre, Thursday: first, Laurene, 169; Yogi, 168; Pat Novak, 167; chocolate bar, Donna; 50/ 50, John Novak; door prize, Donna.

Migraine Saturday.

Cleo sounds like an outboard motor this morning, I’m assuming the food dish is empty. They all haven’t been very happy this week with the brand of food supply. Gemma, neighbour’s dog, had her very own birthday cake on Valentine’s Day. She didn’t blow out her candles though!

I just experimented making salted caramel sauce. Tonight, I made Rice Krispies squares with it on top for our bingo players (our Valentine) an extra card to play Janeen treated us to coffee. Sherry, Dave and I were invited to a delicious roast beef dinner at Tara and Ray’s. So, I made a small pan of squares for our supper, I made fudge today too. Sherry still is in a lot of pain from her fall.

I got a nice phone call from my niece Alicia, today she is in nursing. Already has had some hospital training. Got a call from Samantha as well, nice to hear from them!

Judy was in Tuesday morning, both Mary and Linda called to say the birthday party was cancelled and now there’s no hydro again. They will soon pay us for our inconvenience, yes?

Cal called to tell me of his friend Dave’s wife, Joan, who passed away Wednesday. They were from his Sarnia working years. I met them both about five years ago when we visited. Sympathy to the family.

Hey, I loved the Magic of Moccasins on the Expositor’s front page!

I did want to get to The Sound of Music. I heard that Justin was home to help with the music (McLean) Super.

Congratulations, Expositor, again!

This week I’m reading Wild Orchids. Well written. Keeping me glued! A good rainy day for sleeping and reading. This week Cleo found the cat stairs! It took her long enough, now there’s three extras here. She has taken shoulder position, and she purrs the loudest!

Sis Susan is down and out with a bad cold, and I’m afraid to go near her. I heard that my nephew and niece are both in the hospital again. Get well soon Keith and Elva.

Just about all of Main Street Tehkummah was at Carol’s and Earl’s for supper Saturday night. All my next-door neighbours and Sherry and Dave. Sherry’s back is some better and Tara too is going to get some help with her hip/ leg. It’s all in the muscles, she has been hobbling for quite a while, so the physio will help, thank goodness. I called Betty Jean last evening, she had been to Sudbury to see Bill who had a lung removed on Friday and was doing well. Keep up the good work! I’m so tired of the achy bones. We’ve had a week of March winds in advance of March already. Pauline heard wild geese today, Monday. Think Spring!

The library is sponsoring a Fun Day for the youngsters and the young at heart Saturday, March 5. C’mon out everybody, free food.
