Tehkummah Talk and Times

Melissa says they are going to try the cribbage tournament at Sandfield on Tuesday afternoons at 1:30 pm. We sure had lots of goodies on Wednesday at ours. Almost everyone brought food! Thank you very much! I made a birthday cake for Dorothy as well. She celebrated her birthday with friends and family on Tuesday, July 1 at The Garden Shed; breakfast with Brittney, Bev, Mary, Terry and Rita.

This week’s cribbage results: High hand, Ted, 24; first, Lori and Rick, 914; second, Ruth and Bill, 911; third, Cal and I, 906; low, Pat and Laura, 842; door, Rick and Audrie.

We just came back from a drive up the river. I think it will be a few days yet before the bridge is finished! We were in to Carol’s and Earl’s for our supper when Rick and Kathleen came along and joined us, nice visiting time. I guess they had a nice motorcycle weekend with Colleen and Allan, Kerry and Angie to St. Ignace, and more.

Due to getting signals crossed earlier today, I went to church when I was going to stay home. And Mum stayed home because of mixed messaging, if that makes sense. I did go after church and beat her at cribbage, if that was any consolation (to her). Lunch crew: Martin, Burt, Elaine Border and Joan, Pauline and Wayne, Terry and Kathy.

Anna and Hart are at their summer home.

Did some garden stuff early, and between! Ray and Dave are doing something exciting out back, I think!!

On Saturday morning there was a Canada Post type meeting at the hall. Carol Hughes, Dave Merrick (most we’ve ever heard him talk), Pauline and Wayne’s son-in-law, two of Dave’s co-workers (missed their names, sorry). A save Canada Post program?

Meals on Wheels’ Susan delivers Mum and I a Dagwood sandwich while we were playing cards. Delicious!

I think there must be a fire somewhere the way the traffic drives through this little village!

Friday evening Brian and Margaret joined our table at Carol’s and Earl’s for supper. Earlier I took in the funeral service for Elgin Martin at the Tehkummah Community Hall. A large crowd gathered to say their farewells. A lovely eulogy written by Marie and read by the minister. Also a tribute of memories from Kevin Pattison of his uncle and the farm. A lovely lunch was served by the Triangle Club members. Thursday evening the wake was held at the hall as well.

I went to Susan and Simon’s that evening for super. They had Simon’s sister Mary visiting along with her son Chuck and his friend Elizabeth from Etobicoke. We had a couple of games of Tiki when Pauline and Wayne came along.

2:15 am?Finally a rain, and a darn good one. I yelled out at Poppy to go back into her doghouse. It was coming down too hard to go and get her. She doesn’t care for thunderstorms and I guess that’s what woke me up! Pretty good boomers. As I watched, the solar lights were going out one after another! The clean air smells good coming in my bedroom window. Decided as I was awake, I may as well write. I did look for my bedside flashlight which isn’t?

Marg and Jim spent the weekend with my next door Reckahns. They headed back home to Elliot Lake on Wednesday. Jacob has been with his grandparents Gene and Susan Bebamash.

Canada Day fireworks at South Baymouth harbor were long lasting. A good show and a great turnout! Mum and I had a dish of Huron Lodge ice cream afterwards. Incidentally, my book of poetry?A Fragile Thread? is available there and at Ward’s Store and the Expositor office.

About this paying it forward thing, you can?t talk about your own good deeds. The person receiving can. Studies show that doing a good deed, R.A.O.K (random acts of kindness), boosts your mood. You’ll be happier! Compliment, write, help, people need to appreciate each other. Kids, I challenge you to help someone this week without being asked, even surprise your parents!

Well over at the farm is the cutest thing. They walk Black Beauty and the two goats follow along. This is so adorable. The goats love her!

This past week Matthew and Jennifer King visited Mum. They were home from Thunder Bay for a holiday.

Cal said Anita, Faith and Anna visited him today (Sunday). They’re from Bracebridge. Florence and Gib’s daughter, Rod and Rosa, went home on Wednesday.

This next Sunday, starting at 3 pm, is the now annual memorial service and picnic at Hilly Grove Church! This weekend too at the Tehkummah Hall is the music tribute to Debbie Robinson. Accolades on being inducted (this fall) into the Northern Opry.

Coming up soon on July 19 is our Sr. U.C.W. Strawberry Social at the Tehkummah Hall starting at 7 pm.

I hear when Lori and Rick took Everett up to the hospital one morning Vance was there with an injury to his hand. Stitches?

2:50 am—It’s all gone quiet outside except for the dripping sounds.

I guess there was a country music show at Kicking Mule Ranch. So much going on weekends!

Big doings this Saturday at Brown’s Store. They’re celebrating their 50 years in business. The quiet didn’t last!
