Survey respondents needed to help determine future of Central Manitoulin childcare

CENTRAL MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Family Resources’ (MFR) Children’s Services arm is reaching out to parents and guardians in the Central Manitoulin area, hoping to glean information as to what child care services are required in the municipality.

“We have received an increase in requests and feedback on a need for more accessible child care in the Central Manitoulin area,” explained Diana St. Pierre, Children’s Services program director. “We currently have a before and after school childcare program at Central Manitoulin Public School as well as one home child care provider licenced under the Ministry of Education.”

MFR is asking parents to take a short survey (the link can be found below) to help them formulate a plan.

“The survey is to determine what families are currently using for child care in the Central Manitoulin area,” Ms. St. Pierre said. “We are hoping the data will help us determine the needs for a licenced centre-based program and/or licenced home child care providers in the area to increase access to childcare for families. The data will help us determine barriers to accessing childcare, whether it be hours of care, transportation, location, access to subsidy or even awareness that subsidy is available.”

The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and responses will be held in the strictest confidence, Ms. St. Pierre stated. “All individual responses will remain anonymous.”
