LITTLE CURRENT—Want an easy way to help the environment and raise money for a fabulous cause? Join the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 12R24 and The Beer Store to help find a cure for leukemia, the number one disease killer of children in Canada. On May 24 and 25, donate your empty beer, wine and spirit containers at any Beer Store across Ontario. One hundred percent of your deposit refund will be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
Over the last eight years, the Returns for the Leukemia bottle drive has raised an astounding $7.8 million for research into blood cancers and support for patients and their families. It is believed to be the biggest bottle drive in the world!
If 560 empty cases of beer are donated to each of our 449 stores, we should meet our goal of 250,000 cases and be able to donate even more money to the LLSC in 2014. We are up for the challenge and are sure our generous customers will help us reach this goal!
“The key to a successful drive is the cooperation and kind generosity of our customers and the dedication and spirit of the volunteers, the vast majority of which are employees of The Beer Store, their families and friends,” says Rob Edwards, president of UFCW Local 12R24.
“Bring in your empties the weekend of May 24 and 25, and help find a cure for blood cancers,” urges Ted Moroz, president of The Beer Store. “Your donations will make a big difference!”
Stores will also accept cash donations or $1 can be added to your purchase as a donation to the bottle drive throughout the month of May. Visit the event website at www.bottledrive.ca.
