Sudbury man charged with explosive and weapons offences

SUDBURY–As a result of a week-long investigation by members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, in collaboration with the Canadian Border Services Agency, police became aware that a resident of Spruce Street in Sudbury had imported a prohibited magazine and ammunition for a 223 calibre weapon from the United States. The package was intercepted by members of the Canadian Border Services. Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service`s Break, Enter and Robbery Unit prepared a Warrant and, with members of our Tactical Team, determined the safest manner to enter and search the residence.

Police anticipated locating the magazine and a weapon capable of firing the ammunition but upon entry into the residence, the following items were also located: several magazines, a homemade explosive device, a prohibited shotgun and a homemade conducted energy weapon.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Explosives Disposal Unit attended and safely rendered the explosive device inoperable. This is another example of law enforcement agencies working together to ensure public safety.

This event makes us realize what is possible even in a community such as ours. Public Safety is everyone’s responsibility and it is important that members of the community are vigilant and know that it is their obligation to be aware of what is occurring in the community and in their homes. Explosive devices such as these are capable of causing significant damage and loss of life.

Brennan Boucher (20 yrs.) is scheduled to attend Bail Court today, charged with:

  • Making explosives
  • Unauthorized Possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device
  • Importing Into Canada a Prohibited Device
  • Importing into Canada a Prohibited Device without authority
  • The investigation is continuing and further charges are pending.
