‘Spring into Summer’ campaign targets West End business support

WESTERN MANITOULIN—Western Manitoulin will be the place to be shopping for deals, tours of local businesses, prizes and much more this weekend!

“Join us on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 for an exciting ‘Spring Into Summer’ shopping extravaganza,” said Annette Clarke, Western Manitoulin Economic Development Officer. “Participating businesses are gearing up to offer exclusive deals, exciting draws, and/or special tours. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore everything our vibrant community has to offer!”

“The idea is to promote Western Manitoulin businesses, working together and provide them the opportunity to showcase all that they have to offer,” said Ms. Clarke.

Ms. Clarke explained, “way back when Billings Township was holding a local business meeting, and a lady brought up the idea; Eaton’s in Toronto used to do an ‘Uncrate the Sun’ business promotion every year. Several months (after the Billings meeting) I took the idea to the Gore Bay business group. No one was behind the name, but everyone liked the promotional program.”

The idea was then put out to all Western Manitoulin businesses if they would like to participate, promote their business and offer deals on items they sell in the business, or provide tours for customer, said Ms. Clarke. “For instance, Finnia Chocolate which will be providing tours of their business. “

“And there is the West End Bucks Draw for $300,” that is being provided,” said Ms. Clarke. She explained, “when a customer visits a business, they can enter their name in a draw for a chance to win $300 in West End Bucks. The winner of the draw will spend the cash prize in one or more of the participating stores/businesses.” Each participating business provided $25 for the West End Bucks promotion. “Each store will draw a name, and send it to me, and a computer generated draw will be held to see who the winner is. The more stores and businesses one visit, the more chance they have of winning.”

“We have 12 West End businesses taking part,” said Ms. Clarke. The participating businesses include Berry Boats, Betty’s Convenience, Campbell’s Drive In, Edwards Art Studio, Finnia Chocolate, Gamey Block Emporium, Island General Merchandise, Loco Beanz (Gore Bay), M and R Jewelry, Manitoulin Golf, My Ol’Blues and The Flower Hutch.
