Just imagine…we are in the middle of April and there is still snow!
Also, we have been told that this winter, 2015/2016, is the first winter that Lake Mindemoya wasn’t completely frozen over on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Ken Lewis is recuperating from knee surgery. We wish him well. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to those in the hospital or recovering at home.
On March 29, my cousin Everett Ford celebrated his 100th birthday at his home in Hamilton.
That same evening we received word that Jeanne Barthorpe passed away. She was the daughter of Ilene McMillan, a former resident of Spring Bay.
As we were already in Cambridge at my step-daughter’s, Kim Speight, on Friday to attend Everett’s birthday party on Saturday, we were able to attend Jeananne’s wake on Friday evening.
When the late Prime Minister Elliot Trudeau appointed Jack David of Vancouver, Minister of Fisheries, with added responsibility for Forestry, residents of timber-laden British Columbia immediately tagged Davis “Minister of Fish and Chips.” (A true story.)
Our pheasants, after an absence of 10 or 12 days, returned immediately after our most recent snowstorm. They have joined the rest of our ‘breakfast and dinner’ freeloaders, however, just to see all the birds is well worth the cost of the food! The entourage includes redpolls, chipping sparrows, chickadees, nuthatches, pine siskins, canaries, juncos, blue jays along with the less popular bronze grackles, crows and ravens.
