Spring Bay News

Condolences to the family of Shirley Hartley, late of Spring Bay and Toronto, who passed away the evening of December 24th, 2015. She spent the last years of her life living with her sister Shelva whom she looked after until she was unable to do-so further. Her funeral was on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 at the Simpson Funeral Home in Gore Bay, with internment in Grimesthorpe Cemetery. Ivan Hartley was home in Spring Bay for his sister’s funeral as were Mary and Rick, Helen and David, Gayle and Patti, Shirley’s sister Shelva was unable to attend due to health reasons.

On Christmas Day we visited with my daughter Lila and then continued on to visit with Barry’s youngest daughter, Danielle, and her family. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner while we were there. During Christmas morning we received telephone calls from family and friends both in Canada and the U.S,

The Horticultural Society will meet on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 at 1pm at the Spring Bay Community Centre. Following the opening remarks by the president the guest speaker, Judith Jones, naturalist, will present her program. There will also be a show and tell by the members of items of their choice. The hostesses are Sally Blackburn-Sloss, Marie Sloss and Carol Lee. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.

Be careful! A new law governing drivers in Ontario is now in effect. When approaching a designated crosswalk you cannot enter or drive through such crosswalk until all pedestrians are out of such crosswalk. The crosswalk must be clear of all pedestrian traffic before you proceed!

A man met an old friend who had been under the weather for some time, and asked him how he was feeling. “Fine,” replied the afflicted one. “I’m feeling much better since I went to a new doctor. He’s been giving me iron shots, iron tablets and iron injections.” “I’m glad to hear that and do you feel better all the time now?” asked the friend. “Sure do….. as long as I face north.”

Euchre at Spring Bay begins on Friday, January 8th, 2016 at 7:30 pm. All players of all skill levels are welcome.
