Southeast Manitoulin Lions Club Summerfest returns this summer

MANITOWANING—The annual Southeast Manitoulin Lions Club Lions Summerfest is returning this year.

“After two long years without Summerfest, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have decided to bring back Summerfest,” said Lisa Hallaert, president of the Lions Club, in a letter to Assiginack council. “During the past two years, we still helped those who needed it within our community. It has been hard, as Summerfest is our main fundraiser.”

“This year marks 40 years since the first Summerfest took place in the community,” explained Ms. Hallaert. She added that, “The Southeast Manitoulin Lions Club appreciates everything the township of Assiginack has done in the past to help make this annual event a success. We are hoping that you will again be able to help support Summerfest.”

Council passed a motion that the municipality will provide the Manitowaning arena and grounds at no cost to the Lions Club for its Summerfest celebrations, which will take place in July.
