Snowdusters hopeful for land use permission for trail

MANITOULIN—It appears as if it could only be a few more days before the Manitoulin Snowdusters Snowmobile Club could receive permission from the Sheguiandah First Nation to use road allowances on the west side of the community for snowmobile trails.

Representatives of the Snowdusters met with Sheguiandah First Nation Chief Andrew Aguonie on Tuesday and everything appears hopeful.

Doran McVey, president of the Snowdusters, told the Recorder after the meeting, “we met with Chief Andrew Aguonie on the issue. Now he has to take it to the full council at a meeting January 25. But it sounds very positive.”

The Snowdusters are seeking permission to use the road allowances on the west side of the community to put in a trail from Sheguiandah to Manitowaning,  said Mr. McVey.

“If final permission is granted by Sheguiandah council we will be on our way again (to having trails open Island-wide),” said Mr. McVey.
