MINDEMOYA—Charleigh Carrick knew a year ago, at the tender age of five, that she wanted to donate some of her hair to help provide wigs for women and children with cancer. Charleigh is the daughter of Lee Carrick and Andrea Seguin of Mindemoya.
“She was pretty excited to do it and have her hair cut. She had told us last year, when she was five, ‘I want to donate some of my hair and help someone’,” said Ms. Seguin. “We said if you really want to do this we’ll set it up.”
“We had quite a discussion on what this all meant and what would happen,” said Ms. Seguin. “Charleigh and Deb Karn of Deb’s Unisex and Hair Studio worked everything out.”
“Charleigh has always had long hair,” her mother said. “She was asking if she should get her hair cut at the end of August or September, but she and Deb decided to wait until it grew a little longer. Deb asked her last week if she still wanted to do it and everything was a go.”
“Debbie cut nine inches of Charleigh’s hair,” said Ms. Seguin, who explained Charleigh’s hair will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths Hair in Mississauga, Wings for Cancer Care Association, which makes wigs for children and adults who have cancer.
Charleigh is a student at Central Manitoulin Public School (CMPS) in Mindemoya. “When it is a child of your own and they want to do this type of thing, it is amazing,” added Ms. Seguin.
