Silver Water resident to hold Canada Day party to raise funds for friend

SILVERWATER—A Silver Water resident will be hosting a Canada Day party to help out a good friend who is battling leukemia.

“Yes, I will be hosting a fundraising party July 1,” said Rick Duffney. One of his best friends, Gary Crawford, who is from Sarnia and visits Manitoulin, has leukemia. “He is a really good friend of mine. Some of his medical costs are covered, but he has to go to hospital in London, Ontario for his treatment.”

“Gary explained to me the lengthy process he has to go through for his treatment,” said Mr. Duffney, who pointed out, “Gary is now in the London hospital.”

“I decided to open up my camp, Whispering Pines, to put on the party and help raise some funds for Gary,” said Mr. Duffney. He is hosting a live music and a ribs and burgers barbecue party on Kemp Lake sideroad in Silver Water. There will be a $10 entry fee, a barbecue and camping will be available on site. He added that there will be a karaoke held, but jammers are also invited to attend and be part of the gathering.

The festivities will start at 12 noon and donations are appreciated. Mr. Duffney can be reached at 705-923-6756.
