Sherron Clarke Memorial Carp Derby hauls in 49 participants

GORE BAY—A total of 12 teams and 49 registered participants (including seven junior participants) took part in the 41st annual Sherron Clarke Memorial Carp Derby in Gore Bay and area waters the second weekend in June. The derby is organized by Cody Hunter and Kaleigh Harrietha.

“We would like to say thanks to everyone who participated this weekend,” said Ms. Harrietha at the awards ceremony held June 9 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Gore Bay. “Despite the crappy weather, everyone still came out to support the derby.”

Ms. Harrietha explained on Saturday that while there were no carp, there were 25 dogfish harvested by participants. Again, on Sunday there were no carp harvested, but five dogfish were caught. “The grand totals for the weekend were 30 fish caught, all dogfish.”

Taking first place prize was the Cody Hunter team with 19 points. His team included Stacy Rayner, Jarvis Debassige and Andrew Wood. 

Finishing in second was the Adam Brown team which had 14 points with seven dogfish harvested. Mr. Browns team also included Terry Kay and Jesse McMurray.

The John Seabrook team which included Landon Seifried, Dustin and Anders placed third. The Darren Nodecker Memorial award for the most dogfish (nine) harvested during the weekend was won by the Cody Hunter team. 

The Scott McPhee team included Ron Hall, Jeff. B. and Billy M. won the prize for the most fish harvested Sunday (two dogfish).

The prize for the most unique garbage found by participants in the water during the weekend, the side of a boat, was won by the John Honse team.

The Don Chilton Mystery draw (for the prize of next year’s entry fee being paid for) was won by the John Seabrook team.

“We would like to thank the two of you (Ms. Harrietha and Mr. Hunter) for all your hard work in organizing this derby,” added one of the participants in the derby.
