Although the summer is well past, the Sheguiandah Museum is still having lots of activities. Quilting is now moved to Monday afternoons, for more info call Norma at 705-368-3416 or check with Linda at the Needle Box to learn more about the classes. Starting this month the common room of the museum will be open on Tuesday afternoons from 1-4 pm for anyone wishing to come and work on their particular hobby. Members of the Manitoulin Fine Arts Group will be there to help you with any art projects, be sure and drop by for a visit.
On Monday the 18th of November there will be a workshop for a Christmas floral centerpiece. Call Vicki for more info and to register, there are still a couple of spaces available, 705-368-1826. Keep in mind that the annual Victorian Christmas party will be on November 23. There will be lots of activities for young and old, with games, crafts and special treats. It all starts at 1 pm at the museum.
Be sure to mark Saturday, December 7 on your calendar for the first annual craft fair at the museum from 10 am until 4 pm. There is still a few spaces available if you want to sell your crafts. I hope you will be out to see all the nice things that the local people make and support the crafters in our first craft sale.
I have been told that the seniors’ hall is very close to being finished. All have worked very hard on this project over the summer and fall. Meanwhile euchre is still played on Monday afternoons at the United Church. Also the Taloist Tai Chi classes are still on Friday mornings, from 10 am until noon. Wendy invites anyone who is interested in the classes to drop by for a visit or you can contact her at 705-368-3059.
Our best wishes go to Judy Garbutt, who is now in Sudbury having therapy for her legs. Everyone here in Sheg hopes you are feeling better. Several people have been sick with the flu and bad cough already this season. I hope that is not a sign of what to expect over the winter. Even though the weather has been so changeable it is still not officially winter, and the long range forecast does say it is to be a cold long one with lots of snow this year. When we have been out for our walks around the village we noticed how high up in the trees the bees have built their nests. Maybe they know something we don’t!
The water levels are really high in the creek here in Sheg. It looks more like the spring run off instead of fall. All this rain should help the lake levels as last year everyone was pretty worried about how low the water was getting.
Deer hunting season is starting soon. We have not been seeing as many deer this year as there was in other seasons. There have been some along the roadside and last week a big doe and fawn put on a little show for us in a field out by Ten Mile Point. They first ran across the road in front of us and jumped the fence then run up and down the field and jumped and played for several minutes before disappearing into bush. It was nice to get such a good look at them.
While out for a drive we noticed the new cell tower has been built by the gravel pit on Highway 6. Maybe I am just hopeful, but does this mean high speed Internet service for Sheg? That sure would be nice to have.
