The Senior Ladies’ Charity Golf committee of Evelyn Corbiere, Madelaine Coupal, Kathy Grant, Sue Kolari, Viviane Lafraniere, Irma Lenz, Gloria Thompson and Lor Trudeau make a donation to the Manitoulin Health Centre cancer room.

ASSIGINACK– Ten years ago, a committee of seven woman (Evelyn Corbiere, Pat Kay, Sue Kolari, Viviane Lafreniere, Barb Poulton, Shirley Sharp and Lor Trudeau) saw a need for a separate senior ladies’ golf fundraising tournament (50 years of age, or older), as it was difficult to compete with the younger golfers!

The charity chosen was the Mindemoya Cancer Treatment Room of MHC, as this supported the entire Island. The merchants were very supportive with monetary gifts and merchandise prizes.

On June 20, 2005, the first tournament was held with 30 golfers attending.  For 10 years, we have gotten bigger and better and are very proud of our efforts. On June 22, we celebrated our tenth anniversary with 116 golfers! We continue to support the Mindemoya Cancer Treatment Room of MHC as our charity. The support of the merchants has remained strong.

Over the years, we have had the support of the Wednesday Night Senior Men. The Rainbow Ridge Golf Course has been our partner in this endeavour since day one. Many of our Monday morning senior ladies’ golfers have canvassed for prizes and helped us set up and take down decorations, signs, breakfast etc.

Without everyone’s assistance, this tournament would not have enjoyed the longevity that it has experienced. The Committee for 2015 consists of Evelyn Corbiere, Madelaine Coupal, Kathy Grant, Sue Kolari, Viviane Lafraniere, Irma Lenz, Gloria Thompson and Lor Trudeau.
