GORE BAY—The fifth annual Herb Walker Memorial Cup seniors’ pool tournament wrapped up in mid-February with Bill Baker finishing on top. The tournament was held at the Western Manitoulin Senior Drop-In Centre.
Only the top four of the 11 entrants advanced to the playoff. Phil Harper finished in second place with John Gordon and Eric Nicholson placing third and fourth, respectively.
This annual tournament was initiated by the late Peter Fletcher to honour Herb Walker.
As well, the second annual Two Table Blind Draw Team Tournament was held. The format for this event was alternate shot-making by the team members, which added a twist to the games. Four of the five teams advanced to the playoffs.
The championship team this year was made up of Jim Lanktree and Loyalle McDougall. Second place went to Bill Baker and Eric Nicholson; third to Morris Emery and Mike Arbour and fourth to John Gordon and Jim Munro.
