Selena passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of October 1, 2013 at her home in Auburn Hills, Michigan. She was born on January 21, 1929 in Howland, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada, and named Jessie Elizabeth Selena Stringer. Mom shared many happy memories of being raised in Silver Water by Jack (DAD) Kemp and family. She left Silver Water on September 5, 1947 to pursue an education in nursing in Detroit, Michigan. Alas, Selena fell in love, married, and raised her family in Michigan before becoming a nurse. She did enter the medical field years later with a variety of jobs from receptionist, medical billing and nurse’s aide. Selena, always curious, was active in education and U.S. politics even though as a Canadian citizen she did not have a vote. Summers were spent on her beloved island in Smiths Bay with her children and friends. Her children can still be found in Smiths Bay in the summer time at the family camp. Selena was predeceased by her Husband, Paul Andrew Labadie, in 1972. She leaves behind four children; Terith Grace Blood (Norm), William Paul Labadie (Pamela), Joyce Diane Supko, Wendy Sue Labadie (Frank Manning), nine grandchildren; Todd, Michelle, Paul Andrew, Scott, Tamara, Nathan, Stephen, Frank, and Jessica, and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for some time in August of 2014 on the Manitoulin. Selena will be missed by all the lives she touched for she was “Precious” to us all.
