See who will be crowned Miss Manitoulin 2017 this Thursday

LITTLE CURRENT—The Little Current Lions Club Haweater Weekend is kicking off tomorrow night (Thursday, August 3) with the Miss Manitoulin Pageant at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre in Little Current starting at 7 pm.

This year’s pageant will see seven girls compete for the 2017 crown including: 17-year-old Sarah Migwans-Bayer of M’Chigeeng First Nation, sponsored by Mindemoya Guardian Pharmacy; 18-year-old Michelle Campbell from Mindemoya, sponsored by Campbell Construction; 15-year-old Zoé Couillard of Kagawong, sponsored by Bare Naked Beauty; 17-year-old Delaney Madore of Gore Bay, sponsored by McQuarrie Motors; 15-year-old Olivia Ashley Manitowabi of Wiikwemkoong, sponsored by Your Dollar Store With More; 15-year-old Ana Migwans of M’Chigeeng First Nation, sponsored by Spirit Island Adventures; and 18-year-old Megan Misner of Gore Bay, sponsored by Boarderline.

The contestants will undergo a tiered process to determine who will be awarded the title of the next Miss Manitoulin, which will include one-on-one interviews prior to the pageant with the judges and during the pageant, a fashion show featuring Island fashions, an evening gown competition and a talent or speech component.

This year’s judges are Katie Harper, former Miss Manitoulin (2014), Miss North Ontario 2015 talent winner, Miss Teen Talent Canada (2015) and Atlantic Canada’s Top Singer (2016); Brooke Debassige, an actress and model (represented by Angie’s Models and Talent International) who has appeared on ‘Hard Rock Medical’ and ‘Mohawk Girls’ and a former Miss Manitoulin (2013); and Crystal Madahbee, a long-time Miss Manitoulin committee member who was part of the original committee that revitalized the Miss Manitoulin pageant four years ago.

“We are very excited for the Miss Manitoulin pageant this year,” said Miss Manitoulin Committee member Robin Burridge. “We have an amazing group of girls and a great day planned for them. They will be practicing in the morning, followed by a workshop with Ms. Debassige. In the afternoon they will have their one-on-one interviews with the judges, followed by pampering, getting their hair done by Phreddie Shore of Hair and Nails 2000 and makeup from Katie Harper with Younique makeup.”

The fashion show will feature the hottest fashions of 2017 from Dreamer’s Cove, My Ol’ Blues, Boarderline, Black Butterfly, Kuku Hut, Former Flame and Turners of Little Current.

Returning this year as pageant host is Kelly Timmermans from Country 103, Great Lakes Country.

All of this year’s contestants will receive swag bags full of loot, generously donated by Manitoulin businesses, while Miss Manitoulin 2017 will receive a special gift pack with big ticket items like a ticket to Manitoulin CountryFest.

Don’t miss out on seeing who is going to be crowned Miss Manitoulin 2017 tomorrow at 7 pm at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre. Doors open at 6:30 pm and admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
