Sault Ste. Marie man arrested on outstanding warrants in Wikwemikong

WIKWEMIKONG–The Wikwemikong Tribal Police actively patrolled the village of Wikwemikong the evening of October 28 with information of a wanted male in the village with warrants for his arrest out of the city of Sault Ste. Marie and Garden River First Nation.

On October 28, 2014, at approximately 9:10 pm, officers were out patrolling in the main village area and observed the wanted male walking along Christine Street. As officers began to approach the male he began to flee from police. Police pursued the suspect on foot and successfully apprehended the wanted male.

Further investigation into the matter revealed that a 21-year-old male of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is charged with: possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, obstruct a peace officer, mischief under $5,000, and fail to comply with probation order in Wikwemikong.

The accused person is currently in custody and is set to appear in bail court in Gore Bay on Friday, October 31 at 10 am to answer to the charges.

Wikwemikong Tribal Police would like to thank members of the community for assisting and coming forth with the information of the wanted man’s whereabouts in the community.


 

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police service are actively investigating a break, enter and theft that occurred overnight between October 22 and 23 at the Holy Cross Mission Church and the Day Star Community Centre.
