LITTLE CURRENT—The Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reminds Haweaters, and those who wish they were, to stay safe this Haweater Weekend.

“We want everyone to have a fun and safe weekend,” said Community Services Officer Constable Marie Ford.

“There will be zero tolerance with a real focus on underage drinking,” Constable Ford advised. “We want to keep our young people safe. If we find an underage drinker, we will be bringing them home to their parents,” she warned.

Little Current can expect to see an influx of officers for the weekend through ATV, bicycle and marine patrols, as well as officers on foot.

“The rest of the Island will be covered as well,” Constable Ford assured the public.

“We want everyone to have a fun weekend and we want to have fun too,” she continued. “We really enjoy meeting the new people who come to Manitoulin for the festivities, but our goal is to keep it safe for everyone and ensure that our roads are safe.”

“If you’re out drinking, and you’re having a good time, stay put,” the constable continued. “We want a good weekend too; we don’t want any tragedies.”
