January 4, 1966 – September 27, 2014

In loving memory of Roger Clayton Peltier, January 4, 1966 to September 27, 2014. Beloved partner of Clara Francis. Loving father of Jessica Eshkawkogan, Kaylene Peltier, Ryan Peltier (Carolyn), Sarah Peltier, Jeffrey Peltier and step-father to Bentley Cheechoo, Nadia Cheechoo and Alex Francis-Osawamick. Cherished grandfather of Kelton, Terran, Marie, Alexei, Mikhail and Emery. Dear son of Loretta Doreen Peltier (Trudeau) and Hilary Franklin Peltier (predeceased). Dear brother to Brian Kimewon, Doris Peltier (Stitch), Annette Peltier-Flamand (Scott), John Flamand (Kim) and Sarah Flamand (Mark). Will always be remembered by godparents Shirley and James Peltier (predeceased) and godchildren Hilary and Catherine Peltier. Treasured grandson of Christine and Andrew Peltier and William and Helen Trudeau (all predeceased). Roger will be sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Roger was a selfless, honest and generous man who looked out for his family and friends. Even during hardship, he maintained a positive and hopeful attitude and was known for his tenacious character. When his cousin Allen Trudeau (predeceased) went missing on a hunting trip at Point Grondine, the police abandoned the search efforts. Roger and others risked their own lives; continuing the search and found Allen alive many days later. Afterwards, his cousin Shawn Roy (predeceased) went missing in Montreal. Roger and his cousins combed the city streets, until Shawn’s body was eventually located and brought home. His life’s work was in the field of economic development and he was instrumental in the development of Wikwemikong’s first mini mall. He combined his two grandfathers livelihoods of fishing and farming and brought fish farming to Wikwemikong. Roger loved playing scrabble with family and friends. He will be remembered for his “off the cuff” sense of humour. Donations in Roger’s Memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be greatly appreciated. Rested at The Rabbit Island Community Center on October 1, 2014. Friends gathered after 1 pm. Funeral Mass was at Holy Cross Mission on October 3, 2014 at 11 am. Cremation to follow.
