Robert James “Jim” Still passed away with his family at his side, at Manitoulin Health Centre on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the age of 85. Born to Mary and Lyle Still on July 7, 1932 in Mimico, Ontario. Married Stella May Moore in 1954 (predeceased in 1991) having four children Paula (Donald), Dawn (Donald), Jamie (Connie), Kim. Became a proud grandfather to Tavia (Marek), Trevin, Courtney (Scott), Jesse (Tanner), Ali (Colin), Zac (Karras), Davin (Aamanda), Ty (Courtney) and great-grandfather to Caelan, Brynn, Cole, Hayden, Chase, Quinn, Theo and Caden. Jim and Florence “Ellen” Cooper formed a loving relationship that lasted until his passing. He became a loving stepfather to Steve (Virgie), Susan (Colin), Tom (Robin), Gary (Shelley), Joe (Kim), Ron (Tracy) and grandfather to their children. He will be greatly missed by his siblings Shirley (Clark predeceased), Rick Still (Mildred), Joan Burnett (predeceased), Marilyn Holmes, Ross Still and Brian Still (predeceased). Jim played on the Pittsburgh Pirates Farm Team having the highest batting average until he threw out his arm. He lied about his age at 17 to join the army. He was a Golden Boy Paratrooper in the Korean War performing night time reconnaissance missions in Korea and Japan. He was a Golden Glove Boxer during the war: this is where he was renamed “Gentleman Jim.” When he came home from the war he made a pact with himself to never harm another person. When he started working with the ambulance it wasn’t a job, it was a calling. With a good heart and helping hand he was there for family, friends and neighbours.
