LITTLE CURRENT – Grab your kilts and prepare to hoist sail for the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre on Saturday, January 25 as the Manitoulin Navy League hosts the 2020 Robbie Burns Dinner.
The dinner is an annual fundraiser for the Manitoulin 348 Sea Cadets Corps and will feature a traditional Burns dinner with all of the usual formalities. This year has the added cachet of being held on the beloved bard of Scotland’s actual birthday.
“We are delighted to have Bernard Andrews coming over from Sudbury to emcee the event again this year,” said organizer Carmen Laidley. “He does such a wonderful job of entertaining everyone.”
In addition to the traditional Robbie Burns recitals and stories, there will be chances to bid on some fine bottles of scotch as well as a 50/50 draw for the teetotalers and such to chip in, along with plenty of door prizes.
Festivities will commence at 6:30 pm, so folks are requested to arrive by 6 pm to settle in before the grand entrance of the dignitaries and that most august king of the puddin’ race—the haggis.
“We don’t want the evening to run too late,” noted Ms. Laidley.
For those looking to stay over for the night, the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre has a special rate of $99 (plus taxes)—remember to request the special Burns Dinner rate. To reserve a room, call 705-368-9966.
Tickets for the event are $40 each and are available at The Expositor office in Little Current, Breakaway Sports and at the Recorder office in Gore Bay, or by calling 705-368-3718.
