MSS runner qualifies for provincials
M’CHIGEENG—A Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs runner has qualified for the Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletic Association (OFSSAA) championships.
James Scott placed first in both of his races, in both his 800 and 1,500 metre races at the Northern Ontario (NOSSA) championships held at Laurentian University in Sudbury on May 24-25.
Matthew Redmond placed in the top 10 in the intermediate boys’ discus throw and shotput, while Marjorie Scott finished in the top 10 for midget girls’ triple jump.
Other Mustangs who competed included Marshall Maciuk, Mackenzie Cortes, Yohana Ogbamichael, Douglas Robinson, Austin Purvis, Elizabeth Wood, Nicole Boyle, Alex Smith, Gabby Corbiere and Beth Wiwchar.
Canada Day celebrations to include a Rockin’ Rib dinner
GORE BAY—The town of Gore Bay/Gordon/Barrie Island Canada 150 celebrations being held July 1, 2017 will include among a day full of activities, a ‘Rockin Rib’ dinner.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a wonderful rib dinner while relaxing in the beer gardens while live music will be played in the background. Don Cook will be cooking the ribs and the front street will be closed for the Rockin Rib dinner. The ribs will be served in the area on the street in front of the Gore Bay community hall.
The dinner will include a half rack of ribs, baked beans, cole slaw, a bun and a Canada Day 150 birthday cake for dessert.
Tickets will only be available in advance and can be purchased at Loco Beanz in Gore Bay, Robertson’s IDA and both the Gore Bay and Gordon/Barrie Island municipal offices.
The Rockin Rib dinner will take place from 5 pm to 6:30 pm and is $16 per ticket.
As well, a free kids dinner for those 12 years of age and under including a hotdog, juice box and a Rice Krispies square is being sponsored by the Gore Bay Rotary Club.
