Motor vehicle destroyed in fire

POPLAR—The Gore Bay-Gordon/Barrie Island volunteer fire department responded to a motor vehicle fire that occurred on Poplar Road on June 27.

“The vehicle was completely destroyed (in the fire),” stated Mike Addison, Gore Bay fire chief, this past Saturday.

The vehicle, a 2002 S-150 pick-up truck, was on fire and the firefighters responded to the call of the blaze at 8:50 pm on the evening of Monday, June 27. Firefighters used foam on the vehicle and water to douse the blaze. “The fire occurred on Poplar Road just north of Coburn Road,” Mr. Addison told the Recorder.

Mr. Addison noted the driver of the vehicle was not injured, and was standing on the side of the road when fire fighters arrived.

“We suspect the cause of the fire was electrical,” said Mr. Addison, who said the blaze was not deemed as being suspicious.
