Legion Branch 514 teams qualify for provincial euchre championship
GORE BAY—Two teams representing the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Branch 514 in Gore Bay have qualified for the Legion provincial euchre championships.
Six teams of the total of 24 teams that took part in the district euchre competition held this past Saturday at the Royal Canadian Legion in Minnow Lake qualified for the provincials. This includes two RCL 514 teams.
The team of Allison Coulam and Diane Riching, along with Doug and Tracy Graham, placed third in the competition and has qualified for the provincials, as has the fifth place team of Erwin Thompson and Steve Middaugh, who played with Merle Idle and Merv Lewis.
The RCL provincial championships will take place in Angus, Ontario on May 7.
Rob Gordon Rink qualifies for Canadian championships
SUDBURY—Rob Gordon of Sudbury (who has strong family ties to the Gore Bay area) and his curling rink have qualified for the Canadian championships.
Mr. Gordon’s rink includes Ron Henderson, Dion Dumontelle and Doug Hong. The Gordon rink curls out of the Sudbury Curling Club.
The Gordon rink was the winner on the men’s side at the Northern Ontario Curling Association senior curling championships held recently at the Iroquois Falls Curling Club.
