Rick Bartolucci calls out Tim Hudak on ONTC

Editor’s Note: This open letter to the leader of the oppositon in the provincial legislature is being published at the request of the authour.

To the Expositor:

Re: Divestment of the Northern Ontario Transportation Commission

Dear Mr. Hudak,

I am writing to ask that you clarify the PC Party of Ontario’s position regarding the sale of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC).

More specifically, do you support the careful, responsible divestment of the ONTC or would you maintain it as a government entity, should your party form the government?

As you know, no member of your caucus has asked a single question on this issue during Question Period since our government announced our plan to divest last March, despite 248 opportunities to do so.

In addition, you have a personal history of supporting the sale of this entity. When last in power, the PCs sold NorOntair and reduced annual subsidies by $11 million. Under your leadership as then Northern Development and Mines minister, your government announced plans to completely divest itself of the ONTC.

I look forward to hearing from you on this issue. In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying your summer.

Rick Bartolucci, MPP
