RHEA DIANNE SMELTZER
Rhea Dianne Smeltzer passed away peacefully at the Owen Sound Hospital on July 12, 2022, in her 72nd year. Rhea is survived by her brothers Lonnie Smeltzer of Sarnia, Chester Smeltzer of Tehkummah, her sister Valerie Smeltzer-Opper of Edmonton, Alberta, her uncle Wayne and aunt Pauline Martin of Tehkummah and numerous cousins and their families. Longtime friend of Mabel Williamson and of neighbours Gord, Joanne, David and Andrew Staples. Predeceased by parents Melvin and Girda (nee Martin) Smeltzer, brother Robert Smeltzer, brother-in-law Mervin Opper, and sister-in-law Eileen Smeltzer. Rhea loved teaching and had a stellar career in Ontario schools in Wiikwemkoong on Manitoulin Island, Gogama in Northern Ontario, Cape Croker near Wiarton, at Strathcona in Owen Sound and at Derby Public School near Owen Sound. She travelled extensively in Canada, USA and Europe and returned home in summer to Tehkummah where afternoons with family were always fun. Rhea enjoyed keeping up on current events, doing puzzles, reading, and learning new things every day. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. Please accept this as your personal invitation to attend a casual gathering of food and drinks to be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm at Joe Tomato’s Restaurant, Owen Sound. Memories and stories will be shared at 3 pm. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
