Retired Island teacher rocks comedy world

Next comic adventure at the Little Current Legion on November 3

LONDON—Former Manitoulin Secondary School teacher Charles Adam is enjoying a second career as a standup comic with a self-described shake rattle and roll approach to humour that leverages his Parkinson’s disease and exemplifies living life to the fullest. Mr. Adam recently competed in the qualifying round of London’s Next Best Comic competition where he placed third.

Mr. Adam declared himself pleased with the result. “First place and third place were separated by only five votes,” he noted. “My next comic venture involves a show at the Royal Canadian Legion in Little Current on November 3.”

Mr. Adam made his stand-up comedy debut at Sudbury’s Crown of Comedy in 2015 not long after he retired from teaching at the high school, beginning a comedic adventure that would see him perform on various stages at competitions and events throughout Ontario. Notable were his appearances at Yuk Yuks NTS in Ottawa and an invitation to the Thunder Bay Comedy Festival. He won the “Drop the Mic” competition at the Timmins Comedy Festival and performed to laudatory acclaim at the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation fundraiser held at Jokers Theatre and Comedy Club in Richmond Hill.

Joining Mr. Adam as headliner at the Legion evening of comedy is Eric Johnston, an award-winning comedian, actor, emcee and best-selling author who “delivers a one-of-kind high-energy comedy experience. Fresh from his fourth coast to coast “UndeniaBULL” Comedy Tour, Mr. Johnston has performed across Canada and the United States and been featured on MTV, JFL, The Laugh Factory, The House of Blues and The Comedy Store in Hollywood. Mining memories of being raised by a professional wrestler and thriving and surviving his hometown of Hamilton, Mr. Johnston’s comedy is both outrageous and relatable, leaving his audiences begging for more.”
Filling out the ticket is Jordan Armenise, who brings a lightning-quick wit and a knack for engaging crowd work to elicit laughter from his audiences with an unique riffing style of comedy. Proudly embracing his Italian roots and hailing from Stoney Creek, Mr. Armenise “infuses his humor with cultural charm and relatability.” He can be found showcasing his comedic chops in the new Crave TV show ‘Bulges.’ Beyond the live stage, Mr. Armenise’s talents extend to radio and broadcast media, “solidifying his place as a versatile entertainer in the comedy scene.”
