EVANSVILLE—Mackenzie Gilmore, the reigning Ambassador of the Providence Bay Fair, says her attendance-participation in the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies convention was a very memorable experience.

“It was a really fun, good experience; nothing like I’ve ever done before,” Ms. Gilmore told the Recorder on Tuesday.

Ms. Gilmore was in attendance at the OAAS convention held at the Royal York in Toronto this past weekend. “The convention takes in all agricultural societies and districts in Ontario, including the Providence Bay Agriculture Society, which is part of District 12.”

Ms. Gilmore said among the many activities that took place, “they hold seminars looking at  different ways and activities to run things at a fair, booking, and entertainment for example. I brought back ideas that I heard  from representatives of other fairs, back to the Providence Bay Fair.”

“There were about 90 of us (Ambassadors) on hand. It was a little scary at first walking into a room of people I didn’t know, but it was a really great experience and I met a lot of really nice people,” continued Ms. Gilmore.”And as the Providence Bay Fair Ambassador I learned what it will be like and what I will be facing when I compete at the CNE Ambassador Fair competition (being held in Toronto in August).”

“Along with the other fair ambassadors we learned the how to present yourself at the CNE Ambassador Fair competition, and ideas on the speeches we be giving,” said Ms. Gilmore. “The speech we have to prepare for the CNE competition is to be one and a half minutes long,” she said, noting only seven of the 90 ambassador candidates will actually be delivering their speech at the public competition. “The speech has to be mostly related to agriculture and agricultural fairs in some way.”
