RCAF aircraft flyby official opens Gore Bay Canada Day celebrations

GORE BAY—The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) opened up the Gore Bay Canada Day 150 parade, this past Saturday, with a flyby overhead Meredith Street by one of its aircraft.

“Yes, we understand there is supposed to be a Gore Bay Canada Day 150 celebration July 1 and we are flying a CC-150 Polaris over the town at around noon hour,” Kevin Scott, of RCAF told the Recorder last Friday. “The aircraft is fairly big and looks like jet airliner.”

Stasia Carr, assistant clerk for Gore Bay told the Recorder, “(town councillor) Kevin Woestenenk, (a representative of the town on the Gore Bay-Gordon/Barrie Island Canada 150th organizing committee had first encouraged me to look into having a flyby over the town on Canada Day.”

Mr. Scott told the Recorder “this aircraft travelled over Gore Bay to Ottawa, and was also involved in flybys in Perth and Brighton.”

RCAF Captain Peter Hoedlmoser had indicated in a letter to Ms. Carr, on June 27, “this is to confirm our Squadron’s intention to participate in your Canada Day celebrations on July 1 with a flyby of one of our CC150 Polaris aircraft (otherwise known as Airbus A310). As discussed with you, and weather permitting, I will be passing over Meredith Street, Gore Bay at 12 pm.”
