PROVIDENCE BAY—Young Providence Bay curler Parker Johnston was as cool as a cucumber in winning his age division at the provincial Hit-Draw-Tap competition held as part of the Scotties Women’s National Championships in Thunder Bay.
“I was very impressed. Parker was calm for being on the Scotties ice and having so many people in attendance,” stated his mother Angela Johnston after the competition held February 15. “I was probably more worked up than he was.”
Earlier this winter the Providence Bay Youth and Junior Curling Club held a Hit-Draw-Tap competition during their junior curling program with the results going up against other curlers in his age group (10-12) in Northern Ontario. The event had curlers throwing five hits (take-outs), five draw shots and five tap shots (bumping a rock into the house). Each shot gets a score out of five and their total score is uploaded to a database.
Parker Johnston finished fourth in Northern Ontario for his age group to qualify to take part in the provincials. There was a total of five competitors taking part in his age division at the Scotties.
