There will be a Christmas Eve service at 7 pm at the Community of Christ Church in Providence Bay. Everyone is welcome.
We regret to inform you that Joyce Chilton’s husband Don passed away recently. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
At Christmastime during the war, my father would get in touch with the armed forces and would tell them he was preparing a Christmas dinner for five Air Force, five Navy and five Army officers. The Air Force arrived and the Navy came early and the Army guys got lost and arrived late and the guys teased the army guys about not finding our house until later.
After the meal they got out the instruments and we had all kinds of them including a piano. We had a great time singing songs and everyone enjoyed the evening. Our guests were so thankful for the delicious dinner.
He kept this up every year till the war was over. When the war was over several families came from different countries and brought their families to meet us. If you know of someone who is going to be alone maybe you could invite them for a Christmas dinner. I would like you to read this poem, it has a very special meaning: A candle is burning, a candle of peace A candle to signal that conflict must cease For Jesus is coming to show us the way A message of peace humbly laid in the hay. Please remember our seniors and veterans at this time of year. Make Christmas day special for them too.
