Providence Bay News and Notes

The winners of the monthly euchre tournament that is held on the last Tuesday of each month are as follows: Linda and Danielle won first with a whopping 101 points. Congratulations ladies! Second place went to Fred and Jim with 87 points then Betty Jean and Bill were next with 83 points followed by Wilma and Kal at 82. The most lone hands was won by Bill and Betty Jean with eight lone hands. The low hand went to George and Gayle. Don’t forget that there are regular weekly euchre games every Tuesday. Remember the tournaments are held on the last Tuesday of each month. You don’t need a partner for the regular weekly games.

Dawn Young was down to see her specialists in London following her transplant and the doctors continue to express that Dawn is doing exceptionally well. Her mother is so thankful for all of the well wishes and considers that the power of all of the prayers that have been sent out are being answered and is thankful for everyone who continues to do so.

Get well wishes and prayers are being sent out for Gary McFarlane who is at Health Sciences North recovering.

Riley Wright married Amanda Recollet at their home in Wikwemikong on Saturday, October 29. The guests were all dressed up with a Halloween theme. He is the oldest son of Amy and JD Wright. Riley’s grandmother Lynn Swiheart came up from Ohio to attend the wedding.

The Providence Bay Halloween Dance was a howling great time. The hall was well decorated and everyone in attendance was dressed up in stunning costumes. The DJ was fantastic and had the dance floor packed the whole night. The lunch was delicious and hit the spot at the end of the night. Thank you to all of you who volunteered your time either working the dance and/or supplying all the goodies. They had a hard time picking the winners for the best costumes as everyone looked so great. The winners of the best dressed couple went to Keith and Brenda McAllister who dressed up as Snow White and Dopey. The individual winners were Pat O’Leary as a cave woman, Jackie Patterson as Poison Ivy, Maria Diebolt as a jellyfish and Leah McAllister as Tinkerbell. Congratulations to all!

Don’t forget the monthly curling club breakfast will be held on Thursday, November 3 from 7-9 am. This hearty buffet breakfast is superb and will satisfy any appetite. All proceeds go to the upkeep of the club.

The Providence Bay Curling Club is holding an open house on November 6, 2016 between 1 and 3 pm for registration for this upcoming years’ season. This will be for any new or seasoned curlers. If you’d like to curl but aren’t able to attend call Angus at 705-377-7404. Come on out and join up for some great curling fun this winter.

The Curling Club and Cheeky Heifer Farms will also be hosting the annual Manitoulin Meat Spiel on November 11, 12 and 13. This is an open spiel. $180 per team, all teams are guaranteed three games. There is also the blind Calcutta plus other fun prizes for the hog prize, take-out artist and the first team out. The first 16 teams will be accepted. Mark your calendar… Sunday, November 6 is time change (back one hour) at 2 am. This is also the time to change the batteries in all your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and don’t forget to check your medicine cabinet for outdated medications.
