The first long weekend of the summer has come and gone and brought the heat with it. The rapidly greening grasses and tree leaves sprouting also brings along the arrival of black flies. Make sure to use a spray with “deet” to keep the little buggers away.

Kathy Warner (nee Simpson) was home for the long weekend to visit with her parents Eddy and Betty and lots of friends.

Lesley Kerckhoff (nee Glanville) and daughter Emily were home Victoria Day weekend to visit parents Les and Elsie. Lesley also visited with long time friend Angela (nee McDermid)

Clyde’s Cookhouse is now open for business every day from 12 noon to 10 pm. This new take-out experience can be enjoyed at Ralf Island Truck Parts. It’s at Dryden’s Corner in the old J-Bob’s building. It’s cash only for now but head on out to enjoy their large portions of scrumptious foods.

There was a fire at Doug Squires last week causing quite a commotion with many concerned residents of Prov wondering just where it was originating from. Thankfully it was an outbuilding and not their home.

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the tragic passing of Gregory Robert Kay (Greg) on May 25 at Health Sciences North. Cherished son to Russ and Joan Kay of Providence Bay, loving wife Sherry of Sudbury who he married in 1985 and a proud dad to his three girls Tara, Kyrstin (Dave) and Keeley (Dave). He will be sadly missed by his family and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers.

Greg was a proud organ donor knowing he would save lives and for that reason the family would like to encourage everyone to register themselves as an organ donor in Greg’s memory.

Bryan Morgan was home for a quick visit from Peterborough to spend some time with mom Sandy Morgan.

Glen and Mona Bryan were home to visit Hummingbird Haven, their summer home on the beach.

The stag and doe for Alicia McAllister and Craig Young was held on Saturday, May 26 in Mindemoya. It was an excellent celebration and everyone had a great time.

A celebration was held for Barb Neill who celebrated her 75th birthday. Numerous surprise visitors showed up to brighten her day. Happy belated birthday wishes Barb and also to Mary Eadie who celebrated on Monday, May 28.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Jamie McDermid who celebrates May 31, Laura Kernohan will be celebrating on June 2 along with Marley Neill who will be 18 on June 3. If you see them out and about, be sure to wish them a happy birthday.

This weekend watch the roads for all the cyclists as it’s the Manitoulin Passage Ride. You’ll see all the tour routes marked out with coloured flags throughout the island. Manitoulin Island has some of the best cycling found on the Great Lakes.
