Providence Bay News and Notes – June 13, 2018

They’ve finished the final step in the completion of the replacement of Mindemoya Bridge on Highway 551. They planted all new cedar trees along the sides were the old bridge was and it looks fantastic. The salmon fingerlings can be spotted springing and swimming out of the river into their new home, Lake Huron. You can even spot a few rainbows mulling about.

A new business has begun in Providence Bay. Ed Budge is the man to call if you need any repairs or installation of garage doors, 705-207-4642.

Happy belated anniversary wishes go out to Ben and Crystal Lentir who celebrated seven years of marriage on June 4.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Kayla McFarlane who turned another year older on June 6.

There were 22 people that attended the monthly breakfast at the curling club this month.

The beautification committee is requesting that if you are out and about the town to take a moment to water and/or weed the flower beds. If we all pitch in, it really helps the whole community.

The Bluegrass in the Country music festival to support Manitoulin Special Olympics was once again a huge success. It’s no wonder that the event is now considered to be one of the very best events on the bluegrass circuit in Ontario. A huge shout out to Brother John, John Featherstone, the event organizer, all the hardworking volunteers, the Providence Bay Fair Board, and the more than one hundred local businesses that sponsored them, the Municipality of Central Manitoulin, the Red Hat Ladies who decorate and to all the people who come out and of course all the great performers. Thank you!

Happy birthday wishes are sent out to Cindy Davis who celebrated on June 10.

A new service has become available and is operating out of the Mutchmor. Local resident ‘Sister Olivia’ will be doing foot massages for the month of June, Thursday to Sunday, from 2-4 pm. Twenty minutes for $20. Two of four sessions per day will be free for community elders, cash-limited, or “never had one, I don’t know…” You can book a session by sending an email to thulwyth@me.com or calling 416-575-6794.

Toots McDermid’s bon voyage party was held at the Mutchmor on Sunday, June 10. There were lots of friends and family wishing her well along with a lunch and beautiful cake. The family would like to thank the Mutchmor for hosting this special event. Toots moved to Little Current to live in the Manitoulin Centennial Manor on Monday, June 11 to start a new chapter in her life. It was a long-awaited home coming as her original roots are in Little Current.

Family and friends of Michael (Mike) Morgan will be meeting at the Providence Bay Cemetery at 12 noon on Saturday, June 16 for a Celebration of Life service. Guests are invited afterwards to the Providence Bay Curling Club for snacks and refreshments and share loving memories and moments. The celebration of life will be a casual come and go for all.

Upcoming birthdays are Graeme Prescott who celebrates June 16 and Steve Barclay celebrating on June 18.
